I had to smile when about I read Sheila E.'s pudding cake. When our sons were young, I met a woman who baked and decorated cakes for extra money. She told me about he "earthquake cake". It was a crumbled cake with pudding on top. I have made my share of those.

I have made earthquake cakes before, but not like that. Your way sounds a little easier.
