I am bragging about my son when he was a teen.He is now 48 years old.You teach your children to cook to establish independence, self reliance and ability. When this son was about 15, he wanted homemade pizza one night. He (we)did everything from making the crust to all of the toppings. It was delicious. But I quickly learned he had no sense of order or neatness.Counter top and floor had traces of everything, flour, sauce, italian sausage, cheese, mushrooms and multiple dirty pans.He learned a sense of accomplishment and I learned letting him into the kitchen to cook resulted in a disaster area. But we shared time together, which was the important part.He still makes wonderful pizza and he is no longer so messy.

Everyone starts out messy.  But they learn... some sooner than others.

thanks for your story, enjoyed it. I agree the only way to learn is by doing. Once I started cooking I realized that i like to clean as i go instead of waiting to clean when i was done.

I think if you have to clean up your own mess, you quickly  learn not to be so messy!!  Nice memory!!

Wonderful story. I also enjoyed allowing my children ( 1 girl and 2 boys) to cook in the kitchen. It taught them independence and I also taught them about clean-up too! I don't know why, but my husband never cleaned up until the end of his masterpieces, since I am also a clean-up as you go. It makes it easier when everything is done to be able to relax before enjoying the fruits of your labors.

Great story, thanks for sharing.  My son never cooked when he was at home.  But now he does most of the cooking and most if not all of the clean up.  Guess it comes from never having Mom there to clean up after him lol!

Great story.  Both my sons cooked when they were younger and cleaned up.  Both live on their own.  At Easter, they helped cook and they did the clean up!!!  So good!!!
