I tried to make the checkerboard cake for my family get-together and was running really late. I didn't take the time to level the cake before putting it together. I figured if I put enough frosting on the layers, it would be okay. Well, it got to the dinner okay but when we sliced it, it cake began it's lean, with a second cut--it all came tumbling down.. It tasted ok, but what an embrassing night.

Oh well, it was not a shining moment, but you will look back on it & laugh.  The fact that it tasted good is much more important.  I would much rather have a cake that tastes good, than one that only looked perfect.Smile

I was at a wedding many years ago & had a good view of the wedding cake, I asked my hubby if it looked like it was leaning & he said no,l about 5 min. later, I knew it was leaning, so I went to  the kitchen to find some  help. When we got to the cake, the top 2 layers were sliding in slow motion, I grabbed a plate & held it under the layers while the lady started to slice the cake. This was the only wedding I have been to where the cake was served before the dinner. The expensive cake came from a bakery.
