My grandchildren are here today coloring eggs. They purposely made some of the eggs black and then sprinkled them with shiny sprinkles. They really did look great.

a black background leaves loads of possibilities for the lighter colors and sprinkles

Too funny! I would have used stick on's to decorate them or flashy nail colors that were nontoxic.

That's what you could call a science experiment. What a learning experience. Happy Easter!

I never made a black egg.  But I can see how mixing all the colors would be interesting - the first time.  Putting sprinkles or stickers on them is a great "save". Laughing

I remember the fun and mess! We hoped that it would be warm enough to move to the outside and the picnic table covered with newspapers so that my granddaughters could dye the Easter Eggs. What wonderful and warm memories.

Our grandchildren are all past the dye the eggs stage, except one who lives very far from here.  We had such fun hiding plastic eggs around the yard.  The eggs contained coins and sometimes a dollar bill.  If the weather didn't cooperate, we hid the eggs in the house.  Each child had their own color of eggs to collect and we made sure everyone got the same number of eggs and the same amount of "loot".  What fun times!

Oh yea I remember doing this too. How funny but it wasn't until I read this. Thanks for getting my day off with a big laugh.

We always had 2 batches of colored eggs.  One was using the normal colored "pills" they had back then and the others were colored with onion skins.  Just boil the eggs with the onion skins in the pan and the eggs come out a nice russet/bronze color.  My grandfather always did that so I think it was an old Polish custom.

It seems to me you were just being "creative".
