I volunteer to help people with drug and/or alcohol addictions. One of the things that I do is make a special treat for the Sunday meetings.

Every year, my husband, children, our dog, and I go to a beautiful orchard and pick apples. This year, I decided to get enough to make individual size pies for each person that came to the following Sunday meeting.

The pies came out beautifully, even though it was very time consuming, and they brought people together! People who don't usually participate (the just sit and listen), spoke up and asked about my recipe (which is kind of a secret! I use more than one type of apple!). It then lead to a big discussion about baking and recipes. It brought everyone out of their "shells" and people felt more comfortable about sharing other things! I felt really proud of myself and my little pies!

What a great way to get people to feel like talking.  You probably had many requests for more pies in the future.

Lorene,
Bless you for your effort and loving care. This is why God made us. To show his love through simple things. What an effort on your part.
