I convinced my mom when I was about 9 to let me make my Uncles birthday cake which was to be a homemade angel food cake. I read the directions and followed every step to a fault. After baking the cake for over an hour I decided that something had to be wrong because it looked more like lumpy chowder than cake!! Since I had ordered my mom out of the house so I could do it myself I was very upset that I had failed. Upon my mom's inspection and analysing of what items were on the table she concluded that I had used a 4 cup measuring cup not a 1 cup. We of course proceeded to buy more eggs and try again and it came out perfect!! Thanks mom, it's a found memory I think of frequently.

Good for you! At the age of 9, I only wanted to make sugar cookie handprints, and eat angel food cake,a big favorite of mine!

AFC was a fairly big endeavor for a nine year old with no adult help. Outstanding that you wanted to try!

It's wonderful that you made the attempt to bake a cake from scratch at the age of nine. I'm sure you will remember that attempt the rest of your life and get a chuckle each time you bake an angel food cake.

We all learn from mistakes. I know that I still do at times and I am surely much older then 9 years old. Guess it's a thing in life that's bound to happen

Good for you!! First, for trying and second for knowing it was time to ask for help. You did great for age 9. And I'll bet the lesson stayed with you forever - a great way to learn, too!
