Every winter, my sisters and I were glued to the radio hoping that the snow would fall and school would close. Even though we loved school (2 of us became teachers), we adored snow days! Whenever school would close due to snow, we would help our mom bake chocolate chip cookies. The kitchen was warmed by the oven, the house was filled with baking smells, our tummies were filled with yummy cookies, and best of all, we continued a tradtion created by our grandma when her daughter would be home on a snow day. My sisters & I hold close to our hearts the tender memories of days spent baking with our mama snug and warm in our kitchen, eating cookies & watching the snow pile up in our yard.

Oh wow... That brings back memories of baking with my mom. Cookies, bread and cakes for the bake sales. She was known for her knitting and baking at the Catholic School I attended.

Well, yesterday was a snow day here in Iowa. My daughter and 2 foreign exchange students were home yesterday. We baked 4 kinds of Christmas cookies. The house smells so good. The exchange students were surprised as they don't do this sort of thing at Christmas. They don't bake special things and don't decorate like we do. I was a fun day to share traditions with them. Thanks for your story. Great memories.
