I remeber growing up in the kitchen with my brother who was always cooking at an early age for my sistem and me. I remember we all craved for something sweet, with no a drop of flour or eggs in the house my brother made up some taffy candy. he poured in a saucepan vinegar and added lots of delicious sugar, it boiled rigously, he made sure to tell my younger sister and me to step back and he poured the hot sweetness into a long pan after letting it cool for a cople of minutes where he could work with it he let us add our favorite flavor pack of Kool-Aid, we twisted it into funny shapes and boy was it delicious! Today my brother still cooks for us when he comes to town. We all gather around the table waiting to see what he has in store for us. It's always something special just because MY BROTHER made it.

What a great story. I had several older and quite a few younger brothers. I cooked for them but I remember when my brother Doug ask us if we wanted a jam sandwich. Of course we said yes. Doug took 2 pieces of bread and "jammed" them between his 2 hands and said here is your "jam" sandwich. It was not funny to us kids but now we look back and laugh. He never was much of a cook but we love him anyway. Be thankful for all your family and share the love. I got the last laugh though because he now ask me to cook when he comes over to see us. Tjanks for your wonderful story and for reminding me of an amuseing story of my brother Doug. Have a good day and keep on baking. Donna G.

It's sweet that your brother took such good care of you and continues to show his love by cooking and baking when he sees you.

You have a great brother!! I have five brothers, 6 sisters living. Most of my sisters were the cooks growing up, though I have 2 brothers who do the cooking in their marriages now. Having only sons I made sure they learned to cook, my thought being that some day I would like my future daughter-in-laws being grateful that their husbands could share the household chores. Not like my husband who was catered to by his Mom lol. Memories are sweet and even better when you can continue to make new ones.

Both of my brothers are excellent cooks.  One of them even reads cookbooks - for fun!  LOL  I am always glad to get an invitation to eat at their house.  I know it will be good.  They never made me any candy....I will have to suggest it. Laughing
