Alas, I didn't get to share the cooking memories with my grandmothers, but I learned from My Mother and I look forward to making memories with my grandchildren. Whenever the visit, we're always making cookies or I have them help me. That's how we can teach them the joys of cooking and baking. I enjoy every minute of it. How lucky you are to be have those memories.. Memories are the pieces of ourselves we leave behind. Thanks for sharing yours.

Your story is heart rendering. My grandmother was gone long before I was born, but I do remember helping Mom in the Kitchen. We lived on a Farm, and although the immediate family was only Me, Mom & Dad, the extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and even the farm hands, was immense! Especially the Holidays. We would cook for days! Isn't it amazing how many memories center around food and/or the kitchen!

My mother is helping to teach my children how to bake. So far, my daughter has inherited the bread/sweet roll gene. I know I didn't live close enough to learn from my grandmothers, but my parents passed on their love of cooking/baking to me!

I loved reading this story. In my home, I am teaching my grandbabies to cook as I learned. Some things are shown and told. Others are learned by doing.

Your story was wonderful. When i was growing up i would call my grandmother on the phone and ask how to make something. She would tell me and I would make it. At night after we were in bed my grandma would call my mom and tell her that I had call and wantedto know how to make such and such how was it and my mom would tell her. Thats how I learned to cook when I was growing up.

What a lovely memory. When Mom passed away two years, I found out that she had left me her old breadboard, and a few other cooking tools. There were cooking tools that I kept because Mom had "always used them". They warm my heart whenever I use them.

I have the same relationship with my grandmother and had with my great-grandmother's. I started a cookbook the past meets the future. I contact several family members to get some of the older recipes that I grew up with. I have a lot of great aunts still around to get the information and lots of stories. Thank you for your memories.

I wish I could say my mother and grandmother taught me how to cook. My grandmothere died when I was very littel. And My mother always worked so I taught myself to cook and bake. When i first started out I sucked. But now that I am older and have had the experiance over the years I must say I am preety good at cooking and baking. I am teaching my 5 year old granddaughter how tto bake. I make sure we bake at holidays and make them very specia for her since I did not get to experiance any of this with my mother or granddmother. While my son wa growing up i shared the same baking experiences with him as I do my granddaughter. He is a wonderful cook today. Not so much at baking. Buit being a single father he is teaching his daughter how to cook. On sundays they always bake blueberry muffins togehter. something him and I did together when he was growing up.
