Wow! so many beautiful memories....Its that what keeps us going as Family. I do too have my very own memories, growing up cooking, and learning from my mother. Now I teach my 3 year old dughter the same techniques used by our mothers, and grandmothers. The beuty of cooking and baking from the heart will never die no matter where we come from or how we make it. As long as we love it, share it and pass it on....

Your story reminded me of the hours I spend with my grandmother and mother at our family table learning. Thank you for sharing the memories and passing them on. (I am passing mine on to a son rather than a daughter but he is just as eager)

I loved watching my grandmother cook and bake. my problem now in remaking those same recipes is that she didn't measure and did things by feel. I don't have that same ability on some of my favorite recipes.

Great story. It reminds me of cooking and baking in the kitchen with my Mom when I was a kid and until she passed away. Many techniques of today might be easier or quicker, but for some things I still like to do them the old fashioned way. The way Mom taught me. :) Sometimes when I'm in the kitchen whether I'm alone or with my sisters, I feel like Mom is right there too.

I too shared those times with my Gandmother and Mother, and even some with my dad who was a good cook but didn't bake. How wonderful it is to pass on those times. What I really want to know, though is your process for dealing with those pesky Hickory nuts!! I truly believe that the true eternal life is what we pass on. Our names may be forgotten but what we have taught to others and they teach to others lives on. Its a great feeling.

That is the way women really cooked. No measuring cups or spoons just by taste & everything always came out wonderful! Thank you for sharing your story.
