In another memory, I shared about my Mom baking a rum cake for a church bake sale. Well, several years ago, my niece (brother's child) wanted to bake something. I suggested she try a rum cake. She was probably only about 11 and had not done much baking yet, so I worked very closely with her. Over the next year, she made several more with less help each time. There were some that were not so good, but she learned from her mistakes. Finally, the day arrived when she made one pretty much on her own. Her grandparents pronounced it a success and said it tasted like Grandma's. You should have seen the grin on her face when she accomplished this feat. Now, she can do it just fine without any help. One several occasions, she made one that Granddad donated to the church in Grandma’s memory for a bake sale.
