Now that the weather has turned cold again I started thinking of when my mother and I would spend a day making Roaster Brokies and cinnamon rolls. I grew up with these and there is no recipe, she did them from memory. We made a huge batch up bread dough and we would switch off mixing the wet batter then while it was rising we mixed pork sausage and ground meat. Twice as much beef as pork, added some salt and pepper and rolled several 4 to 5 inch fat "hot dogs". Kept them cold till the dough was ready to roll out but I don't recall how thin really, certainly not see through thin. We cut rectangles large enough to pull around the meat and sealed them with pinching. Putting them in a large greased pan and let rise. Baked them, how long...not sure but today we could just check with a meat thermometer. After taking them out of the oven she would turn them upside down to cool and also let the drippings soak into the top of the bread. Of course this was many years ago and no one was concerned about cholesterol or fat but ohhhh my these are sooooo good! The same day we would also use part of the dough for cinnamon rolls. My mother was a very good cook and I can still smell the aroma to this day in the house when we made Roaster Brokies and cinnamon rolls.
