I am currently making memories with my 4 lovely granddaughters. I thought long and hard on this subject. I was intubated twice so far this year and my Doctor has asked me my final wishes.I sat and thought what I could do with my grandchildren that will bring a smile to there face in the future. Do what I know came to mind. I am the middle child with 18 sibblings. We learnt at a very early age to bake and to cook. In this fast world we live in now, with both parents working, with children involved in sports, music, scouts, etc . ,There is not a lot of time for grandmothers to be fit in. I am so very lucky to have the opportunity to spend so much time with mine. I enrolled in a cake decorating class at a local craft store and took 3 of the 4 granddaughters( ages-14, 11,9 ) . We had a great time. Now each week we do something fun with knowledge. I am Slovak and have shown the girls how to make ethnic food that I grew up with. There Dad is Italian and so next we will learn his ethnic food, and God willing I will find something else to learn with them. So my thought for all grandmothers out there, make a lasting memory . Enjoy the laughter, the love, the smells and the pride that emits from and arround your grandchild as they accomplish all you have given them the knowledge to do.

What a precious story. These girls are blessed to have a grandmother like you. I, too, enjoy the special times I have with my 3 grandchildren, and I hope they will always remember how much I love them. I have such memories of my grandparents.

What a thoughtful Grandmother. My own Grandma passed away when I was only 13, ALL of my childhood baking memories to that point are from here. To this day some 33 years later, I STILL cook & bake as she taught me so many years ago!! I'm a big fan of "making memories"!!! God Bless you and your family!!

Hey Christina...Grandma...Bubba
My dad was Slovak, and I had a Bubba too whom I miss dearly. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She made the best stuffed cabbage, pierogies, and halushki, just to name a few. Your granddaughters are very lucky to have a Bubba who can spend lots of time with them enriching them with their heritage. God bless all of you!!

What a wonserful thing you are doing, spending time with your granddaughters. I was fortunate to spend that last 10 years of my Nanny's life with her, taking care of her. Unfortunately she was nearly blind, but it gave me the opportunity to take her on her errands and we talked and talked and talked. I was abled to get to know her as an adult, not just as Nanny. Her disability became my blessing and I feel her in my heart every day. I also come from a large family, having 12 siblings, and both my parents are alive. We are a very large, close knit family and to date my parents have 30 garndchildren (ages 2 to 35) and 7 great children. (ages 1 to 8). My parents spend time with all there grandchildren whether it be baysitting for the weekend, go to their many many sports or school events or like you, baking with Grandma. Though Grandpa does a LOT of cooking too and they help him also and it is fun during the process, he makes them clean up. The joke is that Grandpa cannot cook without using every pot and dish in the kitchen, but they always help out if around. I know from experience that this it is rare, that many children don't get or don't want the opportunity to spend time with their grandparents. You should be commended for spending this time with your granddaughters and they will remember this for the rest of their lives.
