My Grandmother died when I was ten. That was forty-five years ago but I still remember what a fabulous cook she was. At Christmas she always baked tons of goodies. She made a bag of candies for each grandchilds teachers and we proudly took them to school. Each year the teachers looked forward to grandmama's candies. I didn't inherit her knack for candy making but I sure wish I had. I can still see her cooking her candies and wishing I was still standing on that stool by her side!

I was 7 when my Grandma passed on but I can still taste everything she ever baked in my imagination! Nobody can ever cook like Grandma!

Memories are made all the sweeter when baking is added in.  It is too bad that we didn't know more when we were younger, so we could have gained part of their knowledge & skills.

Thanks for your story. I can certainly relate. My parents were fantastic cooks, they passed young and suddenly, i never learned to cook my favorite dishes.

Thanks for sharing. My grandmother was a wonderful cook.  We made so many things together.  I was young, but I still remember.  I helped her make home made ravioli, home made macaroni and many other things.  She never measured anything.  I cook like that now, except if I am baking something like cookies.

My Grandma's still here, turns 84 in October.  She cooks better than she bakes .  What she cooks is scrumptious especially the German food her mother taught her

My grandma never made candy but she was a wonderful cook.  I also think of her often when I am cooking and baking wishing I has some of the recipes she and my Mom made.
I do recall my attempts at candy making and I can tell you this my grandson will NOT be bragging about MY candy making abilities.

I have no memory of either of my grandmothers ever making candy.
Very far back mother made fudge and divinity at Christmas.

My husband's aunt always made candy.  I'm talking about the chocolate covered caramels, nuts, nougets (sp?) - all the wonderful candies you'd buy at a store.  One year she made enough of the candy to hand out to everyone at church at Christmas.  I believe they were quarter pound boxes.  Wow, wish I had some of that delicious candy now!  Don't remember either grandmother making candy.

I try to make it and send it to my kids every Christmas.  I make a variety of kinds and package it in professional looking packaging.  I love doing it.

Both of my Grandmas have gone on to be with the Lord......I now am "the Grandma", I have 2 Grandsons (6 yrs and 2 years) and one due to be born in March of next year. I hope that I can pass on some fond memories to my grand babies, just like my Granny and my Memaw did for me. They were both awesome cooks and that is how they showed us that they loved us. Memaw was known for her Applejackes (small handmade apple pies) and Granny made a wonderful Orange Slice Cake using the old timey orange slice candies, dates, coconut and pecans.........I have tried to make both of their specialties, but they just aren't the same. Thank you so much for bringing back such sweet memories. It makes me want to resolve to impact my grandkids lives just the way my Grandmas impacted mine. To be loved is the greatest gift of all.....don't you agree?
