Even though I am a grandma myself, I still remember those wonderful holiday dinners at my grandmother's in her big farmhouse kitchen and the wonderful scents of her cornbread stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, as well as the turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy. Like another writer, my grandmother alway made her pies the day before Thanksgiving, and refrigerated them until we were eating dinner, Then she would take the pies and put them in the oven at a very low temperature and simply warm them up. There wasn't a single person at the table that wouldn't save some room for Grandmas Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat, or Lemon Meringue pies, even if they thought they couldn't eat another bite of food. The scents from those desserts being heated right next to you would virtually guarantee that you would have to eat at least "a sliver" of your favorite pie. Today, I still enjoy desserts that my children bring with them when they come for dinner, and the memories we enjoy sharing with family and friends on this special day. I know my grandmother is smiling down on the great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren that gather at our house for Thanksgiving and enjoying the scene from her house that is repeated each year in our home, that is, the love and cameraderie that is shown for each other because of the love she had for us.

Traditions are so important today, because so many young growing families in America are ignoring and/or forgetting their heritage and not honoring American family values.
America today is actually under attack because of our own beliefs and values. If we do not remember, and if we do not honor nor respect our heritage or tradition and American Values. Who will? We need to remember our past for our American future depends on it. God Bless America

Thanks, That brought back a lot of memories, We didn't gather at my grandmothers. I'am the oldest,by 11 yrs., of 5 children and I was grown with Children of my own when I started helping Mom cook. We gathered at my Mothers for just about every holiday and my mom done most of the cooking and baking. She is now 84 and not able to do that and I really do miss it. Some of us still get together, but usually bring the food already cooked, accept for last minute things. Granna2
