I miss those times together. Cookies make everyone happy.

Baking cookies between Thanksgiving and Christmas is also a childhood memory. Mom would bake hundreds and with eight daughters, she had plenty of help and plenty of willing "testers" to try the out or est the "mistakes. The wereused as gufts for neighbors, cookie exchanges and for holiday eating. Most of us have kept up the tradition and we each of a couple of specialties, including Mom. We have started a yearly cookie exchange with a few friends where we bring several dozen of each of our specials which we exchange for an equal amount of various other cookies brought by others. This way we all have a variety of cookies for the holidays. It was such a hit that it will probably become a yearly tradition. We considered including the recipe but some of us do not like to share our treasures instead just offer to make the cookies wheb asked. We also make a quite an assortment of gluten free cookies as we have some celiac disease in our family - including some young children - and we don not want them to feel left out of the holiday cookie treat. My sons are grown but they always loved helping me baked. My younger son still gets a kick out of helping me - especially if I am decorating sugar cookies - and he is 16! I firmly believe if you allow children in the kitchen at an early age to help you and start them off doing simple tasks (even if it means a bit of a mess) and gradually increase the skills, you will be giving them an invaluable tool for the rest of their lives. They may not grow up loving to cook but they will be ably to do basic cooking. Then again they may grow up and offer to cook dinner for you when you are too tired - my youngest son makes a great chili and cleans up the kitchen afterwards!

I used to make cookies and candies for Christmas and gave the to my family to take home along with left overs on Christmas. My family especially wanted me to make homemade noodles. They said it wasn't a meal if we didn't have them. So I always made them for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Dinners. I make them a few times through ot the year. I still make my noodles but not the sweets anymore. Money is tight and we all live to far away for our get togethers. I miss them. Thanks for sharing.

I love to bake especially around holidays. Everyone is baking around that time. It's a good time to exchange recipes with other bakers.

I always love to bake for Christmas. They light up the spirits of the receiver and make you feel happy knowing that they will enjoy their baked Christmas gift.
