I remember a cooking episode that was really funny from my childhood. A friend and I were at her house one Sunday afternoon and were going to bake some cookies. We had just finished the 4th grade. We had the recipe and all the ingredients out for us to use. We started mixing up the ingredients and when we got to baking powder, it called for 1/2 tsp. I looked at my friend and said what is a 1/2 tsp. She replied she did not know but to just pour some in the mix and she would tell me when it was enough. When everything was mixed together, the batter was very runny so my friends mom put it in cake pans to cook. She placed the pans in the oven and told us to call her when the buzzer went off.
Finally the buzzer sounded and we called her mom. When my friends mom opened the oven door, the things exploded in the oven from all the baking powder. Needles to say, she did not let us cook again.

Oh No!  I bet it was a mess.  But the Mom was partially to blame.  When the "cookies" were not at all normal, she should have asked more questions.  I hate to clean the oven on a good day.  Exploding dough in the oven is worse than a nightmare.

Funny! Thanks for sharing. I am sure you learned that when baking measurements must be precise. Too bad you couldn't cook again. How did you learn to be a VBB?

Oh wow! I'm sure it  was a big mess to clean up and your friend's mom wasn't a happy camper I bet.

I was a Girl Scout Brownie leader years ago for my daughter's 2nd grade troop. My Co-leader and I  were showing them how to make a pie crust.  Another friend had told me that I could use a large sealed TupperWare bowl to mix the flour dry ingredients with the Crisco shortening instead of cutting it with a pastry blender.  Since we were doing this is the basement of a church, I was trying to use as few implements as possible.  I mixed all the ingredients and put the seal on tight (so I thought) and began shaking hard to mix and cut in the shortening.  To my surprise, the lid came off and I was covered with flour!  The girls got a great laugh out of it.  I  added more ingredients and tried again...this time I was successful.
