Well I had just moved to florida to be closer to my grandmother and mother,by the way my grand mother was also a great-great grandmother and still always in the kitchen daily.I had just had my grandparents and mother over for dinner that nite. I had also just bought my first kitchenaide stand mixer at a yard sale and I was so proud of my find. So I decided to make one of my grand mother famous recipes {keep in mind my grumpy grandfather was undecied on whether he even wanted dessert}Well we put the heavy cream in the mixer and I put it on low speed, well my mother [[[[[[[[who never used this mixer }}}}}}}}}} thought it should be on a higher setting! Wrong move Mom,the cream started to fly all over my kitchen up onto the cellingfan and went everywhere while Im screaming to SHUT IT OFF!we were completly covered in unwhiped cream.WE then did not know what to do except laugh! Then my grandfather says I told you I did not want any dessert! We were all laughing so hard we never did have dessert that nite, but the dog loved licking all the cream whitch was all over my kitchen. That pitcure of all of us covered in cream is forever carved in my memory forever.

I love it!   I have had a "wild" mixer throw batter around too.  I bet you still found little spatters of cream for weeks.  LOL

Reminds me of the "helping hands" my youngest son (he's 26) gave me last Easter with mashing potatoes. The bowl he used was too small and we had taters all over the kitchen counter, backsplash, and under the cupboards. I am still digging mashed potatoes out of the grout! Nothing to do but laugh about this, and savor the memory.

Something that I don't think is mandatory in school anymore was to have to take a home economics class and learn the basics of cooking. What fun since my Mom usually didn't allow complicated things to be done by her children in the kitchen. We could watch and learn and peel potatoes and other vegetables, make the salad, set the table, and do dishes. We started being allowed to bake etc when we were teens and could clean up after outselves and take some of the burden off Mom.
