I was about 12 or 13 yrs old at the time and was making browies. I had big dreams of being a chef and was being what I thought was "chef-like". I was holding the bowl to my side with one arm and had the mixer in my other hand. As I was mixing, I turned my head and some of my very long hair fell into the brownie mix.... and yes, the mixer proceeded to eat my hair. Up, up, up it twirled until the mixer was groaning against my hair and my head. I dropped the browies, yanked the cord out of the wall and ran to my mom. Once she realized I was okay, she laughed until she cried. She tried to get my curlers out of my hair and ended up cutting some of my hair to release the beaters. Now, being a mom myself, I can imagine the inital fear of seeing a mixer eat your child's head and then the picture of seeing her standing there, chocolate dripping from her head with a mixer attached to her hand and hair - what a sight! There were two good things that came frome this: 1) I never did it again and 2)My hair smelled of chocolate for a week!

What an image indeed. Though the story may seem funny I'm sure the experience was not. Guess this is one of those times when the good old hairnet would have benefitted?

Oh gee...what I just wrote kind of disappeared. Funny story and I'm glad you are okay. Just wondering if you still enjoy making brownies. I think I also would not mind my hair smelling like chocolate. Yum. Thanks for sharing your tale!

This also happened to me when I was younger! I was making a cake and just turn for a second and before I knew it I was wearing the mixer. Thank god I was ok, but my mom & I laughed until we cried. One thing I learned that day, when I bake I ALWAYS put my hair up.

I tend to pin my hair back before I do any cooking.  Your story is a great example of why that is a good plan!   I never caught my hair, but I have pulled the mixer our of the bowl before it completely stopped & "thrown" mix all over the kitchen.
