For me, baking for someone else is an unparalled joy. Whenever I try a new recipe I always call my neighbors on the phone and say meet me at the fence. It's hard sometimes to wait until the cookies or pastries have cooled to make that call. My neighbors are always so delighted to get to taste my new creations. They say good fences make good neighbors and to that I would have to add...so do good cookies.

I had a fence neighbor too that would call me up with her home baked goodies, and then I would do the baking. She was a great neighbor, but she passed away last year at the young age of 94. I miss you Greta. Neighbors like that are rare -- you are lucky to have one to share with.

I too, understand your joy. I love to bake, and am always giving fresh baked goodies to the neighbors, friends, and coworkers. Since I live alone, and have physical limitations due to rheumatoid arthritis, it is a nice way for me to say "thank you" to the neighbors for the little things they help me with.

What memories! My neighbor was like you and said meet me at the back door. She was that way and what a neighbor. This was the time we were living in Alabama.

Sharing baked goods with neighbors makes you feel good and I'm always delighted when they tell me the treats were delicious.
