Our youngest daughter Jackie used to watch me as I made her favorite cake numerous times when she was just a little girl. I know that she always looked forward to the time when she would be "old enough" to make her own cake and surprise her Daddy and I with the results. Little did I know that "that time" would happen when she was 8 years old and her Dad and I were out grocery shopping together. She had gathered the ingredients together and done all the right things to make the cake, but when she went looking for a pan that she could handle, she came across an oblong Tupperware dish. She poured the cake batter into the dish and placed it in the oven. Luckily, her Dad and I arrived home just as the pan was begining to melt on the racks. We took the pan out of the oven and asked her what she intended to do, and she said that she wanted to surprise us with her favorite cake! She had no idea that plastic was not the right kind of pan to use in the oven. Jackie is now 30 years old and married, but her dad still reminds her that Tupperware is not meant to bake with. The smile on her face tells us that she is well aware that in Daddy's eyes, she will always be the litte girl that wanted to show us she could do something special for Mom and Dad without help.

I made this mistake as a grown woman! I had Pyrex dishes with plastic lids. I had a recipe that called for keeping the dinner covered while baking, so I used the lid. Oops!

What a sweet story. It shows how closely our children watch us and mimic what we say and do. Pays to be careful always.
