Recently, I made the "layers of love" brownies. I brought the brownies to a youth event and everyone marveled at how wonderful they tasted. One described them as "intense": which in my opinion is the best thing you can say about any dessert. The most comical comment I received was from a guy, who asked incredulously: "you made these from scratch? Really? Wow. Thats impressive."
He simply could not wrap his mind around the fact that I had made it with out the aid of a box, or a bakery. Indeed,it is sad that today's youth does not appreciate baking and cooking as much as I do. I hope that we can teach this generation and coming generations the value and rewards of making something from scratch. The way to do this, is to instill the love of cooking in children from an early age. I have friends who have done this. Their sons, at the age of 13, often makes dinner for the whole family, simply because he enjoys it.

My husband and I have talked about how sad it is that young people think everything comes from a package or box and wonderful skills are being lost! Hopefully these stories will inspire young Moms to try their had at baking, it does not have to be perfect to be appreciated!!

I have always cooked with my kids. I never cooked kid friendly recipes~~They always helped me make whatever I was making. From the time they were babies, they used to sit in their seat in the kitchen while I was cooking or baking. My 10 yr old son loves to make meatballs. My 13 yr old dtr makes dinner on occasion by herself. The best compliment I got was last night, my son said he wants to cook like me!!!
