Tell your son a big thank you for serving and have a safe trip home. I am sure your whole family will have big welcome home for him.

About a week before he's due to be home, I'll start baking his favorite goodies. I'll also make a big batch of chili, a lasagna, and meatloaf for him to take back to his apartment!

GRANA  here; Hi  VERLEE  T ; That is GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!! CoolSmile re:my younegst son  is on his way home!!!:
Just received confirmation that my Navy son, who's been deployed since July on the aircraft carrier, John C. Stennis, in the North Arabian Sea, is on his way home! They will return to San Diego the end of February. They had some added excitement this past month, with Iran's Navy threatening them, and with them rescuing 13 Iranian fishermen from Somalian pirates. Just want to share with my friends on VBB!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. They are SO MUCH appreciated. I will make sure he knows of all this great support he has! He's been in the Navy for nearly 6 years. The best news is that his next assignment is as an instructor at his base in California, about 2 hours from our home!!!! No deployment for at least 2 more years.

Good news indeed.  Not only coming home but next assignment close to home.
Add my Thank you to the others for all those who serve.  It certainly is not easy for them or for their families.
Let them know they are appreciated for all they do for their country.

A suggestion for you.
If your son is single (can't recall from other posts) a great way to do lasagna for one or two servings.
Line 3 loaf pans with aluminum foil first.  Then line with plastic wrap. (Just me, I don't like tomato sauce in contact with aluminum foil)
Lay 1 noodle across the bottom of each pan.
Layer with all the stuff you put on/in your lasagna and continue to layer until you have filled the 3 pans.
Fold over the plastic wrap then the aluminum foil.
Place each pan in the freezer.
When they are frozen remove the wrapped lasagna from the pans.
when you get ready to bake them remove the wraps and place in a loaf pan and thaw or bake from frozen.

I do this when making a lasagna for just the two of us and the 3 loaf pans is the same as doing a 13X9.
I get 1 nice portion and a huge portion for my husband.  Or there is enough for 3 servings.

Nikki, what a great idea. (He is single, and that's one reason I like to send him back to his home with some of my home cookin'!!!) Thanks for the idea.
