DOG BISCUITS [a recipe]:
Who says a creative cook can only prepare goodies for the human family members. Dogs are man (& woman's) "BEST FRIEND" & deserve a special treat from us now & then, too. This recipe makes about 8 dozen; that's 96 dogie treats;, so an occassional baking effort for fido;jinx or Molly B is deffinitely in order!
INGREDIENTS:makes about 8 dozen; that's 96 dogie treats
DRY #1>#7
3-1/2 C AP flour
2C WW flour
1C rye flour
1C oatmeal
2C crackedwheat (bulghur)
1/2C non fat dry milk powder
4tsp salt
OTHER:
1pkt dry yeast
1/4C warm water 2C chicken stock or other liquid(bouillon ,pan drippings, or water from cooking vegetables
1 egg & 1TBS milk for top glaze
DIRECTIONS:
Begin in the evenning after you've done your last baking of the day
Use a LARGE BOWL
In this large bowl; combine first 7 (dry) ingredients
In a separate bowl; disolve yeast in warm water,add other liquid choice
Knead the mixturefor about 3 minutes.
The dough will be quite stiff.
If it's too stiff, addextra liquid or an egg.
Rol dough out onto floured board to 1/4" thickness.
Immediately cut into shapesw/ coookie cutters:: people:(mailman or jogger or aimals: cats, squirrels or a ball(circle shape)This is where a little "whimsy" can add to the fun
Place on ungreased cookie sheet(s)
Mix eg & milk for glaze & brush over tops before baking.
Bake in 300' oven for 45 minutes.
Turn off heat & allow thebiscuits to remain in the oven overnight to get "BONE HARD"
Store in an airtight container outof reach of your dog, who will try to help him/herself to these treats.
