 YOUR FAMILY OR MERELY POSESSIONS???????????????????:
That darn Badcat just unrolled a brand new roll of toilet paper.  He was doing that until I gave up and no longer put a roll in place .... I just set a roll on the edge of the sink. Then I worked long and carefully making a roller that really held a paper roll .... it would allow unrolling but only slowly, with care. HA!  It took that little monster no time to find the newly placed roll and spin it all out. Badcat is a bad cat............... see how he got his name. g-r-r-r-r-r-r-r

Update: Yesterday I took poor old Broadway to the vet for the final time...we sent him on to the Rainbow Bridge, where he will run pain free with all the others who have gone before him.  Even at that last moment, he let the vet know he was NOT happy to be there one final time!  I had him less than a year, but he filled that time with a lifetime of love...Farewell, old boy!

Erica - I went looking to see if I could this lovely verse for you ...........

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own
live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan ......."

Erica, the hardest decision I think I have ever made in my life was to have my German Shepard put to sleep.  She was 16.  I think, looking back I was selfish in not doing it sooner.  I told myself I would NEVER do that again and swore I would never get another dog.  Took me about 10 years but I got my little mini-doxie and I am so glad I have another dog in my life. the joy that she brings is so great, I can unburden my mind to her knowing it will go no further.

Gale, I feel for you.  There is nothing that anyone can say that you don't already know.  No one can make a decision like that unless they are truly ready.  You just have to wait until you see "the look" in their eyes that tells you they are ready and then do the right thing.  It is difficult.  My heart goes out to you.

Thank you, Nancy - that is indeed beautiful.  I know that his last year was good for him; imagine a poor hound dog being kept outside 24/7 even in Wisconsin winters, and suddenly having the luxury of only having to be out for walks and potty breaks!  Yesterday I kept looking for him, beside my arm chair, sprawled out on the floor in the kitchen hoping for dropped scraps, waiting at the door fo rhis leash to be hooked on.  Isn't it funny how they creep into your hearts?

Our pets are like our friends-gifts from above to have for a"short" time. So enjoy them as good or bad as they may be for we know not when they shall leave us for the "Rainbow Bridge".

I used to work at a shelter and I have to tell you my limit was 5 dogs at one time.  We currently have one left from when I worked at the shelter but I have adopted a 12 year old poodle because he might not find a home at his age.  He is such a real sweetheart and character.  We love him with all our hearts and home!  I still have my former ferral cat who is 8 years old and King cat around here!

Good for you, Elsa!  I love the senior animals.  They may not have as much time with us as we would like, but they have so much to give!

Elsa - When I took Badcat and Peaches from the humane society, of course,  they were being treated for the horrible ear mites and fleas they had.  They were "barn cats", tiny kittens, who had never seen a human until someone carried them to the shelter.
It was simple for my vet to eliminate the fleas and ear mites in Peaches but not with Badcat.

Ear mites were so bad in Badcat it took many vet visits, many meds - even steriods - to clean his ears.  His were so bad that there was neuro damage to his face.  His right eye and the right side of his mouth have some permanent damage .... but he thinks he's the prettiest cat in the world - so do I.
And - lol - he thinks I'm beautiful!!

So very sorry for your loss!  I wish I could find the words but it's hard to loose a loyal, loving companion and friend.  They are family!

n Response to Re: ARE YO R PETS A PART OF YOUR FAMILY OR MERELY POSESSIONS??????????????????? : Hi Susan, Romeo is a little stinker but how I love that guy.I have had most of the time two and even three dogs.Rocky saw me through the tuffest times in my life,he is always by my side,he looks at me even though he can't see me,he's always there to greet me with a wag,I know soon it will be his time to say good bye.I remember as if it were yesterday going to the pound and finding my buddy.I lost my Kelly last winter along with my cat Ditto, they died within weeks of each other. This computer was a gift from my brother last year, and I found Romeo on line not too far from home,he was 8 weeks old when we brought him home,he was born this past Valentines day that is why we named him Romeo,I call him Romie.I couldn't imagine life with out the animals that I have shared my life with. There have been so many each different in their own special way.I have never had one like Romeo,I swear that dog understands everything I tell him and he talks back to me with the funny little sounds that he makes or he barks at me.He is special.

Gale...

You are so right, they do touch you in a special way!  I often look at Jinx and wonder what goes through his little head just by the way he looks at me.  I do think our pets understand!

We adopted our 5 yrs. old black lab mix named Maggie three months ago.  We absolutely love her and she sleeps with us at night and goes everywhere with us during the day.  Can't think of my life with out her.

This is Cali a vicious/fearfull cat.She was to be put down by"the no killl" shelter;'cuz she attacked volunteers as they put her food into her cage. Cali was adopted @ age 2 weighing21+#; fierce& agressive. She attacked Maestro as soon as she was let out of her carrier. He refused to fight, instead hid behind meowme's legs for safety.Within 2 weeks they shared the same sunny window, spare bed & comfy chairs.

y chair.Cali lickedMaestro's infected eyes& he no longer has theinfection.Antibiotic pills & drops, eye compresses failed to cure his eyeproblems. butCali's caringtokcreofit fast. Afterhiseyeshealed; professiiona lvetrinary dental care took out the badteeth.Maestro now weighs8.5# (normal for his age(5yo)He eats eagerly & is no longer finicky.
He  has taughtCali to wait tillhe's done eating w/o fighting. He isdominant & has no need to draw bloodto prove it.On cold days& nights, they curl up together for warmth.Cali watched him earn hisnicekitties& decidedshe wantsa "nice kitty" too:.Come when signaled & allow nose-tip to tai-tip stroking as her reward.__________________________________________
