Hi FRAN  M;
GRANA  here;
It seems as if you & shecovered all bases correctly....Unfortunately  that was not enough to protect your "baby" from mishap.Fortunately, you knew hat to do & things worked out OK. I hope her retirement comes before there's a serious problem caused by her generosity. She'd problably feel just awful & go into retirement feeling guilty & regretfull if something  happens  to a dog she gave a treat to.Frown

In Response to Re: ARE YO R PETS A PART OF YOUR FAMILY OR MERELY POSESSIONS??????????????????? : The mail lady has been giving the dog treats for about 5 yrs. (good thing she does not work every day ) and she did ask if it was ok at first. The problem is when she changes the treat. She has big dogs on her route that gets a whole treat & althuogh she does break up the treat in1/2 or 1/4 it is not small enough. She is suppose to retire soon, so we do not want to say anything.

Maybe as a "thank you" you could buy her a box of little treats for your dogs and maybe some of the other little ones she has on her route.

GRANA here;
A lovely story, though not about "PETS" seems appropriate to share / you other animal lovers?

Ihope you can find the time/interest to readthisall theway to theend; itis l LOVELY STORYsnopes even w/o the original pictures(and TRUE according to SNOPES):
FREEDOM & JEFF:

/> **Freedom and I have been together 11 years this summer.
> She came in as a baby in 1998 with two broken wings.
/> Her left wing doesn't open all the way even after surgery...it was broken
/> in 4 places.
/> She's my baby.
/> *
/> *When Freedom came in, she could not stand,
> and both wings were broken. She was
/> emaciated and covered in lice. We made the
/> decision to give her a chance at life, so I took
/> her to the vet's office. From then
/> on, I was always around her. We had her in a
/> huge dog carrier with the top off, and it
/> was loaded up with shredded newspaper for her to
/> lay in. I used to sit and talk to her,
/> urging her to live, to fight...and she would lay
/> there looking at me with those big brown eyes.
/> We also had to tube feed her for weeks.
/> *
/> *This went on for 4-6 weeks, and, by then, she still
> couldn't stand. It got to the point where the
/> decision was made to euthanize her
/> if she couldn't stand in a week. You know you don't
/> want to cross that line between torture and
/> rehab, and it looked like death was
/> winning. She was going to be put
/> down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in
/> on that Thursday afternoon. I didn't want to go
/> to the center that Thursday because I couldn't
/> bear the thought of having her euthanized.
/> I went anyway, and when I walked in, everyone
/> was grinning from ear to ear. I went
/> immediately back to her cage, and there she was,
/> standing on her own, a big beautiful
/> eagle. She was ready to live. I was
/> just about in tears by then. That
/> was a very good day after all.
/> *
/> *We knew she could never fly, so the director
> asked me to glove train her.
/> I got her used to the glove,
/> and then to jesses, and we started
/> "showing her off" in education programs for schools
/> in western Washington .
/> We wound up in the newspapers,
/> on the radio (believe it or not) and even on some
/> TV programs. Miracle Pets even did a show
/> about us.
/> *
/> *In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with
> non-Hodgkins lymphoma. I was in stage 3,
/> which is not good (The disease had affected one major organ, and it had
/> already spread to other organs.) I wound up doing 8 months of chemotherapy.
/> I lost my hair...the whole
/> bit..and I also missed a lot of work. When I
/> felt good enough, I would go outdoors,
/> and I would take Freedom for walks. Freedom would
/> also come to me in my dreams, and she'd help me fight
/> the cancer. This happened time and time again.
/> *
/> *Fast forward to November 2000...
> to the day after Thanksgiving. That's when I went in for my last check-up.
/> I was told that, if the cancer was not
/> all gone after 8 rounds of chemo, then my last
/> option was a stem cell transplant. Anyway, they
/> did the testing, and I had to return on Monday for
/> the results. I went in Monday, and I was
/> told that all the cancer was gone.
/> *
/> *
/> *
/> *So...the first thing I did after I'd left my doctor's office was to go*
>
/> *
/> to Freedom and take the big girl out for a walk. It was misty
/> and cold. I went to her flight and jessed her
/> up, and we went out front to the top of the
/> hill. I hadn't said a word to
/> Freedom, but somehow she knew. She looked at me
/> and wrapped both
/> her wings around me to where I
/> could feel them pressing in on my back
/> (I was engulfed in eagle wings), and she
/> touched my nose with her beak and stared into my
/> eyes. We just stood there like that
/> for I don't know how long, and you might say that it was a
/> "Kodak moment." We have been soulmates ever
/> since she came in, and I knew that she was a very special bird.
/> *
/> *On a side note: I have had people who
> were sick come up to us when we are out, and
/> Freedom has some kind of hold on
/> them. I once had a guy who was
/> terminal come up to us and
/> I let him hold her.
/> His knees just about buckled, and he
/> swore he could feel her power course through his
/> body. I have so many stories like that.
/> *
/> *I never forget the honor I've had of being so close
> to such a magnificent spirit as
/> Freedom.

ope you enjoyed this!*

Fran, What a little cutie! I just love small dogs! My little Juliet is a Min Pin/Chihuahua Mix.With the weather being so hot and the air conditioner running,Juliet has been so cold.I leave a blanket on the couch for her and Romeo to crawl under so they stay warm. These two dogs are my buddies, don't know what I would do without them.

GRANA here;
During these dog days of summer, it’s tempting to bring your pet with you everywhere you go, and leave her in the car or tied up outside. Not so fast, experts say. Find out why you should reconsider leaving your pet unattended in public; PET NAPPING( pet theft) is on the riseSurprisedYell

Fran these little dogs are so smart. My two know everything I say to them. They know when huby or my son are on their way home from work. They sit by the door and stare at the door knob.lol! My Kelly was a border collie and she would smile ,she would show her teeth and smile while wagging her tail. The first time she did it my husband kept saying she is mean.I told him no she's smiling look at ther tail wagging.I told her to smile and she would and if I showed her my teeth she would do it right back at me.Dogs are so very smart.Cats are too but they do things when they want to do them and on their terms. Is your dog a pure Chihuahua? She's so cute.I love small dogs but they do have an attitude. My Rocky was a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix and he was the meanest little dog,he didn't like anyone outside of the immediate family. But he was my dog,he tolerated everyone else in the house. That boy was always next me.I miss that little guy.Kelly,Rocky and Ditto my cat were all close in age.I lost Kelly and Ditto about three weeks apart and then Rocky ten months later. If I didn't have these new Furry kids I don't know what I would do.Animals are good for us.They make our lives worth while and also make us live longer.

Ann I have seen the story on Jeff and Freedom before.Just a great story! We need our animals just as much as we need them.We certainly enrich each others lives. We took my Niece and her cat to the Vet,the cat was sick and ended up being put down and she is just heart broken, she says she doesn't want anymore animals. That it hurt too bad when she loses them.It always hurts me when I lose an animal but nothing and I mean nothing heals you faster than adopting another right away, this is true for me anyways.I'm praying than another cat comes into her life some how and she falls in love with it.

My two dogs are for sure a big part of my family.I cooked some beets today that my niece had grown in their garden.Romeo and Juliet were hanging out with me in the kitchen as they always do.The beets were cooled and I peeled and slice them and put them on the bottom shelf of the fridge in an open bowl. I was getting things out of the fridge to make a salad and I took a bunch of stuff to my work area and didn't close the fridge door because I was going back for more.I could hear Romeo munching on something. He had more than helped himself to my beets! No one but myself ate beets in the house until now ! I guess I'll have to share from now on with the puppies. lol lol lol !!!
