Jinx would not let his presents alone and guess what...I walked into the living room to find wrapping paper all over the floor and a dog with his toy in his mouth with a wagging tail!  Yes, my birds got special treats for Christmas too!

Erica D...

I was thinking of getting a cockatiel but then I changed my mind to a parrot!  Who knows, I might change my mind again!! LOL

I adopted Hawkeye from PetCo - they had to take her out of the big cage because the other birds were attacking her and pulled out all of her tail feathers.  (They have since grown back.)  I think her fee was $5.00 because she looked so scraggly.  She's a sweetie, and I enjoy watching her antics with BJ as they do acrobatics in their cage!!

Oh, my goodness, Gale ..... that's awful.  Poor Romeo, poor you.  That's so scary.  I'm very glad you got into the vet's office so fast.

We consider our dog part of the family as well as my adult son's little dog. Both have their own Christmas stocking that hangs on the mantel with everyone else's. My daughter even calls our dog her little brother!

I was so glad to read how many other people buy stockings for their pets.  We even sent stockings and treats to our  grandcats and granddog in Ohio.  I loved the saying "That if you want the best seat in the house, move the cat".  How true.  It is inspiring to read about people that adopt and take care of our fur friends and fur children.  I wish you and your fur children a very happy New Year.

Frown  For a week now I've been caring for the three cats who live next door.  Their "mom" said they would be afraid of me - they're very shy.  Well, I haven't seen two of them - not a single glimpse.  One has been out twice to see if I'm mom or dad.
I'm very worried -- lots of food is eaten and the litter box is used but, gee, I wish I could see those cats

Hi Gale ... For three days I've been busy at church .... painting.  No fun, hard work, long hours, but the kids usually there 5 days a week for school are on Christmas break so the place is empty  (except for Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night and Saturday morning).  Every inch needs paint so I'm doing what I can - the school rooms first.
Tomorrow I'll do much-used things like the bathrooms and the main downstairs hallway.  When that's done I can keep going with less busy stuff  when school starts up again.
Oh, it's hard to keep kids away from wet paint.
Today on my way home I stopped and bought two more gallons of white ..... Oh, I use a lot of white.

And my cats aren't happy about me being gone so much.

Gale  ~sigh~  Tonight Badcat unrolled yet another roll of bath tissue.
Good grief - I made a new thick cardboard thingy to put inside each roll thinking I could stop that wretched furry monster.  It didn't even slow him down    g-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r

We recently had to call animal control to pick up a cat hanging around our house.  I hated to do it, but it was snowing... and the cat we already have inside can't tolerate a "new" cat.  I think it was or even is someone's pet.  I can't understand how people can allow their pets to roam to parts unknown with no supervision or worse simply abandon them.  This cat has been outside for months.  It had to be.  It's coat was very thick.  But on Christmas Day - it was at my house during a snowstorm- begging for food.  It breaks my
heart to see them cold and hungry.

Our little cocker mix, Peaches is subdued this week,  I think she miises our kids and our son's dog Woody ( a schnoodlier designer dog).  The two dogs would run and play and wrestle.  They are back home in Lexingto, KY now.  Of course it's rainy and gloomy her in AR.  the temps are bouncing all over this week  - 20's to the 60's.

In Response to Re: ARE YO R PETS A PART OF YOUR FAMILY OR MERELY POSESSIONS???????????????????:
Last night had to take our puppy Romeo to the vet.The side of his face was swollen and I first thought that he was just really going at his bone too much so I took it away,a couple hours later both sides of his face were swollen and he had golf ball size hives all over his body.He had to get a shot of Benedryl and has to take two doses orally today. He had an allergic reaction to something so we threw out his bone and all his new toys I have not got a clue to what set this off.I won't take another chance with the toys those can be replaced but Romeo couldn't be.This is an emergency,if something like this ever happens to one of your pets please take them to the vet immediately because if this gets worse this could cause their air way to swell which would compromise their breathing and death could occur.

Gale...

Poor Romeo...is he doing better?  The bone he had, was it new, right out of the package?  I wonder if they soak those bones in an ingredient so it smells like a meat bone and here Romeo was allergic to it.  Just an idea!

Hi Gale -- Hi to you and Romeo.  It's so funny how the creatures like odd toys.  As I write Badcat is tossing his butterscotch candy.  Oh, how he loves that.  I watch it for cellophane ... when that's gone he gets a new piece.

It is so sad to see the neglect of poor innocent animals trying to fend for themselves. After having two dogs pass on-one due to age(13 year old Newf) and the other to unknown causes(3year old Neopolitan Mastiff), I now have a yellow lab that was found roaming in the forest last winter(poor dog all alone in the cold and foraging for himself). The vet guesses his age about 5,he must have been well taken care of because he knows a few commands and is very gentle and accepting. He was found to be "heartworm positive"-he has been treated(very painful to take I have been told) and is now totally free!!!YEAH for him!!!The vet tells me that I spoil him-he has a container of yogurt every morn followed by his kibble, then toast for dessert, numerous treats all day long-looks sad at me so he gets an extra treat and pat, then he ends his day with his kibble. He has a laundry basket FULL of toys and proudly walks around the house showing them to anyone who will pet him. An animal is a member of the family for life  -they are so loving and innocent. I feel so sad when I see animal abuse, they give love if they get love. One wonders why people take any animal into their home and then neglect them-all they want is to be loved. Sorry to go on like this -my animals are like a member of my family and are here for life no matter what .

The shelter I worked for called me Christmas Eve - someone had brought in a 21 year old cat because they wanted a kitten rather than to deal with the issues a senior animal might have.  They know I'm a sucker for the old ones that no one wants any more, and I didn't let them down - China has joined our animal assisted living facility, and is doing great.  Happy New Year everyone!

ahhh Erica -- that makes my throat close up.  I don't like those people and don't think they should get a kitten.
Bless your heart for taking the old cat.

In Response to Re: ARE YOUR PETS A PART OF YOUR FAMILY OR MERELY POSESSIONS??????????????????? : Hi Diane,I'm taking a break from cooking and I saw your post.I loved all my dogs and it makes me sick to see and even hear of abuse and neglect.I lost my 17 y.o border collie Kelly last January and my 15 y.o kitty Ditto.I have another senior dog that shouldn't even be here anymore,he was diagnosed with Lymphoma last January and our 10 month old pup Romeo. One of my friends just sent me an E-mail last night she works at a local shelter they are looking for a home for this young German Shepard who was picked up lost they are guessing. How in the world do you lose a dog and not look for it? She was just sent to the second shelter where my friend works which is a no kill shelter her time had run out at the first one she was there 30 days.We had our pup micro chipped so this never happens.I don't think that he would ever leave on his own he is very emotional when we have to leave him.LOL Your Lab may have been lft on his own because he was sick and the previous owner couldn't afford the heart worm treatment, and hoped that a kind person like you would find him and take care of him.Dogs and cats love us unconditionally and we should love them the same.God bless you for opening your home up to the Lab.

Thanks Gale for your thoughts! I keep telling Murph(my Lab) that he can run away if he wants but I will not go after him-he looks at me and tosses his from side to side and then goes and lays down. He understands what I am sayingbecause a few minutes later,he comes over and gives me a BIG "kiss" then lies down beside me. That is unconditioal love and we should try to give it to everyone we meet this New Year!!

Well, Nancy, if it makes you feel any better, even though there are still available kittens at OAHS, we did not adopt one to them!  :)

Erica - my avatar is my Badcat - I also have his sister, Peaches.  As I've said on here before, I went to the humane society and asked for the kittens no one else would take.  These two had fleas (being successfully treated) and ear mites so very bad it required all sorts of stuff and treatment from the vet.
Badcat's were so bad they damaged some of the nerves in the right side of his face.  But the mites are gone and he's a happy cat.

I wish I could take a photo right this minute.  Badcat is curled up on the printer with one BIG paw on this screen.  Peaches is sound asleep in my left arm on the table  that holds this little laptop.  It's impossible to move and very difficult to type.... lol lol lol
