Thanks, Nikki...I answered you once, but it hasn't shown up, so I hope I don't end up with a double post!Gabby has been a part of our lives for a long time; I will stay with her right through the process so she won't feel alone and scared. Poor old girl - this past year she has changed so much as both her hearing and her sight left her.My new doggie is currently named Oscar, but he just doesn't look like an Oscar to me, so I'm not certain that will remain. I have to say I am looking forward to a dog who will enjoy the dog park and will play with me and go for long walks. Bassets are a wonderful, funny breed, but they get so busy sniffing with those super-sensitive noses that you don't get very far on walks, and many of them are too laid back to want any kind of extended play sessions! So it will be a huge change around our house...hope I am up to the challenge!
Erica, I had the same problems with posting the past 2 days. A post would not show up for a while.I was with my German Shepherd when I had to have her euthanized. Not easy for me but I am sure it was a comfort for her. She just relaxed and for once was out of pain. For that I am sorry I waited so long it was selfish on my part to keep her longer than I should have.I am sure that you will find a good name once his personality begins to show. Hard thing though to change a 4 year olds name.Enjoy your youngster!
GRANA here; It was generous of your letter carrier to give a treat BUT, nobody should ever feed anything to an animal, not therir own( see zoo signs& (" DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS!")there is always the risk of being bitten or causing a problem to an animalw/ tummy issues.I'm surprised that it asn't aught n their long tranng period.Perhaps you could inform her nicely of the problem your dog has w/ treats?A neighbor's young ethusiastic German shorthair pointewr puppy always jumps into my lap & kisses me.[ I'm seated in a wheelchair o i'm asking for it] I gave my neighbor a small bag oftreats for is approval, & after he approved of them for her,I carry a few in my purse & offer them only if he approves that day ( she might not be well, so I ask each time)I makeher sit eachtime 'cuz he really didn'twanther rewardedfor jumping on meeven thoughI don't mind.I hold the treat up & say"SIT" he pushes her back end down to a sit position& she gets her treat. She is nearly trained now to not jump up his desire) & is pleasedw/ the dog training help gave.Sheis thriledto sit & get rewarded. We usedto raisedogs& I took dog traing classes ; learnedhwto train an excited puppy to be well mannered. It's easy when there are 2 humans being consistant & rewards are given. ioned treat caused so much trouble.
I have my little dog and she is part of my family.
