Oh, Thank you Ann ---  I do wish it were a larger photo but I'm grateful to see any photo of such a special cat.

And I've posted this shot of little Peaches before but now I have to try again,  It's jpg ...... jpg is the only photo thingy
I have or can use.  Each of the few photos I've posted are jpg.

Oh NANCY; what a little sweetie your Peaches is. She looks  as sweet as her name suggestsKiss.
I never saw that picture before, so I'm glad you posted it again... I saved all ou digi rpics as jpg & have beenn unable to post any of them onVBBB, tillI converted them to gif format; an easy process whenI can remember how it is d one. My brain injury often  makes remembering things difficult ;nearly impossible w/o trying really hard
..I wonder  why jpg poting works fo ryou & I cannot d it.Hubby who earned his living writing illustrated technical manualsw digi /pics tried & he too was unable too post jpg pics.He cleverly converted them to gifs & posting worked just fine.

NANCY; The pic of Maestro was taken on his first day w/us.He weighed only4.5#, though fully grownown( 3-5 yo)On close inspection every rib showed up & couldbe felt when petting him.Now seeral years later, he weighs almost 9# & has a tiny rounded firm tummy.This morning, he ate all his food, right down to the botom of the bowl( unusual for him)Cali is slimming down & Maestro is "filling out";
It seems rescuingh her was the right  decision for  all of usSmile

Hubby in his retirement has the need for  a purpose/structure in hislife. He became a volunteer @ the”NO KILL” shelter where we found Maestro). In the beginning, after training,  the nearest location had 2  longtime volunteers & hubby was a” floater”  filing in where needed; not always close to home. Finally the location a short walk from home had an opening. Hubby came home, showered &change clothing before touching Maestro( to prevent illnesses .Every evening I  heard stories of pretty cats; old cats; fat cats; sweet cats..Once in awhile hubby had an injury requiring cleansing & bandaging.He never reportd these as required;  to prevent a  scared cat  from being penalized.After a few months on the job, I was invited to go w /him to meet some of his friends.We hadbothtaken training on bringing home a second kitty. Hubby needed i t to help advise new adoptive customers.I went along to help hubby get all the info despite his deafness. Iwent to visithubby’skids.I saw the cute ones (ALL/most) ; the old one , the fat one (same one,Henrietta)  lovely long haired tortie butterball w/ a sweet  face

Ann - I have no idea about any computer stuff - I just stumble along in stark terror.  What would I do without it.  Right now Yahoo is making "threats"  and I'm incapable of doing what they ask no matter how I try.

And you just said "brain injury" and memory problems ..... good grief.  ((( Ann)))   I know how you feel, I know how that feels.  I had a grade ll  oligodendroglioma tumor removed from my left temporal lobe on Feb 14, 2006 and second surgery May 2007.   ~shudder~ ......
so my memory is a problem too.
I go back to the hospital for an MRI, visit the neurosurgeon and the special neurologist on  May 16 - just a check-up.

Thanks for writing.

Hubby & I explained my  concern to Michelle (the other volunteer)  Michelle said that if Cali did not work out,we could surrender her for a fee of $45. That did it; we had to try the rescue. Huby took me home to  prepare for a second kitty.  I set out  a second litter box; food & water bowls & bed I sat w/Maestro in my lap & explained to him about the new kitty pawpaw was bringing home as a companion for”my sweet  baby boy,Maestro”. While hubby went  through the adoption process for Cali. Our references( personal & vet) cleared & a hubby paid the $38 adoption fee( $65 to non volunteers) He brought Cali home.Maestro joined me at the front door.Hubby put down Cali in the carrier. We allowed mutual looking & sniffing as per training .Both seemed calm. Hubby opened thecarrier.Cali immediately pounced onto Masetro’sback, flipped him over& put her teeth into his neck. I was stunned&  yet managed to yell NO!.Maestro got up & ran behind me( for shelter) Cali  looked surprised..I pointed myfinger at her& sternly said NO!; we don’t do that here!YellThis is Maestro’s home, he lives here (first) & you must get along w/him or you won’t live here, too!Hubby picked up a trembling Maestro & cuddled him.Cali stomped around looking for “ trouble” or food?I took Maestro & hubby putCali into the bathroom  w/ alitter box, food & water. Maestro, now calmed  down;  sat outside t he bathroom waiting for “his new companion” to come out.?UndecidedWe followed the training lessons & kept them separte for 3 days w/a closed door keping them apart & allowing scents to becoefamiliar.Maestro lost interest in food; waiting outside the door for Cali, it semed.UndecidedFinally we opened the door.Cali walked past all of us. Maestro remained at my side pressed up against my legs for safety.Hubby took Cali to the bowls  of food in the kitchen..She ate &  ate ‘till both bowls were empty….So much for portion limits to help her slim down. Hubby put more food out f or Maestro & brought him to the bowls. As usual, he ate only a tiny bit & walked off. He went over to Cali and  we humans feared another battle. Cali walked off  & Maestro came over to me for attention.Cali jumped onto t the spare guest bed & immediately fell asleep. A good sign?; we said;she’s eaten & feels safe.Maestro folowed in to the spare oom, searching for Cail? I feared he was going to provoke her; but watched from a distance.She woke up & began to growl & spit.Mastro came to me for attention/safety.  He obviously was not going to ignore us for his new”playmate’  We kept them apart for only one more week;training  suggested up to 3 weeks.WinkWhen they were once again free & alowed contact; there was no spitting or hissing ;Maestro respectedCali’s space & she his. Having 2 litter boxes helped in that aspect.no need to share the "important stuff"Smile.Each timeCali walked by one of us, we reached  out to  to pet her.She would turn on us & try to  bite. We called her "BEASTY GIRL”  gave her free range & didn’t push for contact.At night, Maestro had always slept  w/ us.After a few nightsCali joined us.all.There was ample room on our king size bed & no unwanted contact was necessary. I always put  moisturizing lotion on my feet at bedtime .The second night;I  awoke to find Cali curled up next to mt lavender scented  feet. The calming scent did it’s magic on her.Each niht thereafter, Cali curled up at my feet alll night.At  the end of our first week together the shelter called; asking about Cali. told d them them that she & Maestro had a”truce”& that Cali slept all night at myfeet;"Making progress”  I was told that if things got  too diffiucult,we could surrender Cali at no cost If it seems  too much  for us.  It seems that Cali was about to b e put down since she bit all the volunteres & had failed at several previous adoption atempts,  due to her aggressive nature.We were due to havethe free Vet exam the next day ; a vet recommended by the shelter for” difficult cats.He referred to himself as THE” CAT DOCTOR” & claimed  to help owners w/  problem cats.We took both cats in, to save time.Cali’s exam was FREE Maestro’s exam would be $75 Maestro  allowed the exam in his usual gentle manner .The vet found an infestation of ticks in Maestro’s ears missed by  anoher  VETS  previousFREE exam, He treated the problem( neary $50),. Cali hissed &  tried to bite but the exam was done=HEALTHY  no medical reason for aggressivenes! The vet  warned that female Calicos aged 2 can be very aggressive & that it will only get worse in the next year.I  told him of the improvement in Cali already( one week)   I believed  it to be the e calming influence of Maestro.He laughed & said  she will turn him to be aggresive  too & we should not hope he would continue to influence her in a good way. “They will gang up on you & work togther to take over your home”.He seemed to be suggesting we give up on Cali as hopeless  &  is only going to ruin Maestro  as a  pet.When we got home Cali jumped into the kitchen sink & chewed up the kitchen sponge. Fearful of her getting sick & not hinking of my own safety, I chased her away&  cleaned  up the pieces of sponge. Cali arched her back, but did not hiss, growl  or attack in self-defense.

Today I had to rescue little Juliet,she has been trying to go upstairs and she was only able to go up the first two steps that is until today.She would make it up the first two steps and cry and whine until I saved her.I was in the kitchen washing dishes and I heard her crying,expecting to see her I didn't,she climbed all the way up and was on the landing crying and not knowing how to come down.I am unable to climb the steps so I was throwing her treats trying to coax her down,she wouldn't even try.No one was home so I had to do something.I sat on the steps and went up one at a time,I BUT- walked all the way up and she jumped into my arms,now we had to come down and I needed both hands to come down one on the steps and one on the banister.I put Juliet in my pants.LOL LOL LOL and I pulled my shirt over so see couldn't see.We came down one step at a time and Juliet was saved !!! I hope I never have to do that again.:)
