Gale, I am so sorry to here of your loosing Rocky.  They become so close to us and so hard to loose, just like children.

How are you doing since your surgery?

It is always hard to loose a pet.  But remember how much they add to our lives.  Gale, I feel so bad for you right now.  But remember, we will be reunited with out pets in the end.  I am sure all of mine are in heaven waiting for me to join them.

Gale, Nothing can ever replace Rocky but it would be really hard if you didn't have Romeo to
comfort you. Rocky still will be your guardian angel puppy!!!!

I thank everyone for their kind words.Rocky was so special to me,all my pets have been special to me but that little guy stole my heart.Everyone always asked me if I was not worried about him not being on a leash when we were outside and I would tell them no.Rocky never left my side he was too worried he would lose me.It comforts me to know that he waits for me.

My mother had to have her best friend put down yesterday afternoon. He followed her everywhere he could until the end. He was 15yrs old. He was a Black Lab & Vissula Mix. She is really going to miss him he was a real loving dog. His name was Cody.

Our dog doesn't know he's a dog.  He's our fur child.  A great companion, always eager to please!

In Response to Re: ARE YO R PETS A PART OF YOUR FAMILY OR MERELY POSESSIONS??????????????????? : Amen!  The shelter I work at takes in a fair number of puppy mill dogs - usually females who have been bred many times and are past their usefulness.  They, too, have never walked on or smelled the grass.  So sad!  BTW - at least 40% (probably much higher) of the dogs found in shelters are pure-breds, so I'd beg you to shop around there before seeking out a breeder, unless you are looking for a show dog who cannot be spayed/neutered in the show ring.  Think adoption first! :)

Wow, that sounds so sad. I live in SA and we dont have puppy mills. What a blessing! With all that goes on here we really dont need that. I first heard about it by watching Oprah, so I've seen a bit of the stuff happening over there. Good luck by getting rid of these things and the people running them.

I've heard that this state - Missouri - is the puppy mill capitol of the USA.
Last Nov. the voters passed a law to very strictly correct that.  The state government is trying to reduce that before it goes into effect.

So sorry to hear that, Kathy.  Give her our best, and please, if and when she is ready to take on a new companion, encourage her to think adoption! (Do I sound like a commercial?)

and Anneline, I recently heard that Minnesota has finally passed puppy mill regulations - hooray!  Looks like it is coming along, state by state.  It really is sad, seeing those poor, unsocialized dogs who don't know how to act when people try to interact with them.  Many of them cower away from simple touch and hide in their kennels, because at age 3 or 5 or 10 they have never known the kindness of a human hand...oh, don't get me started! :)  On that note, I think I will go finish off the banana bread I made on Sunday.  YUM!

I started looking on line at the local shelters to see if I can find my new best friend. We'll start going to the shelters soon as it warms up a bit.The only thing that helps losing a pet is to find another angel to help fill the void.

Gale, That is a really great idea!!! After my Sassy cat died in Aug. my husband catnapped a
kitten that was left outside. I gave him  a bath 2 times because he was full of grease and he
also got smacked by a raccoon by the food bowl. They were't feeding him so my husband
took him inside. He is now a fat black cat. Then my husband went on line and found a cat
that looked like Sassy when she was a baby and her name was Miss Sassy and she was
a Beverly Hills stray and was on death row in the LA shelter. This group rescued her and
took her to Petco. We drove 50 miles to get her. The 2 cats play really good together. So
I now have 2 cats to replace 1.

Hi Carol ,that is so sweet of you and your husband to give those kitties a great home to live in.I lost my dog Kelly and my cat Ditto last January and February.Kelly,Ditto and Rocky were all the same age.I adopted Romeo last April,I thought about getting a new cat but decided not to because Ditto would not stay in the house like all my other cats did and it was a constant worry. So now I have Romeo,he is a Basenji Doxy mix.He is a year old now and he needs a playmate,so I'm going to look until I find a nice one for him.My first cat Amigo was a stray that was injured,he was a Russian Blue,I had him about 10 years.I'll tell you Carol I think these animals know their fate and they know that we love and care about them, that we save them.I think that was great that your husband brought that kitten in and you cared for it and you adopted a cat from death row.Any animal I ever took in I never took it to the pound ,if I couldn't keep it I would find it a home.I would have worried about the out come had I done that.

Sorry Erica to hear you Mom lost her beloved Cody.  If your Mom is able she should get another pet not to replace Cody, but to help her grieve.  When you have someting  to hug and its makes the tears less often and so many older pets need homes.  Our Local Humane Society is have a HUGE Adoption fair on March 20.  Several shelters will be there to get 200 or more pets adopted.  I believe this fair will be all dogs.  It will be in Tinley park Illinois at the Petsmart.  South Suburban Humane Society in Chicago Heights has all the information.  Several shelter from Indiana will be there as well.  This is for your MOM....
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I love the pet posts too!!! Our cats are family!! We have more than 5 and under 10. I word it
like that because a friend of mine comes on this site once in a while and I don't want her to
know how many cats that I have. She doesn't like animals. We have 4 cats that are waiting
for us at the rainbow bridge!!! We still miss them! Most of the cats are rescue cats. Three of
them are black so they are hard to tell apart.

Nancy, Is Badcat a big cat? He looks big in the picture! Looks like a really cool cat!
The black kitten that we rescued in Oct. is now a big fat cat that is about 14 pounds!
He is the one that lays across my arm while I'm the computer. My conputer is a desk-
top so he is laying on the hard desk and on my arm. He loves to watch the computer
screen, but does not try to touch it!!! We sure do love our cats!
