Well we went out last night leaving our two doggies on their own.We leave Rocky have the run of the house, but not the puppy Romeo. He has to stay in his play pen,it's about 12 ft around and he has plenty of room to play.As soon as he saw us getting ready to leave he starts pacing back and forth and whining, well as soon as my son went out to the truck Romeo ran out side and jumped in the truck he hates when we have to leave him and so do I .Whenever we just go for a ride or one of us stay in the truck the two of them always go with us.Romeo and Rocky are truley a part of our family.

I just returned from Goodwill store.  I go there when my sweet little Mini Doxie needsmore toys.  She is very hard on dog toys and will rip them apart in a matter of moments.  Goodwill sells stuffed toys for .49 I look for ones with no beans, beads, or other stuff that would pose a hazard.  I just gave her 4 toys, 3 at least twice her size and already she has the fluff all out of one.  But she's happy!

Hi Nikki, I wonder if that ia a Doxie trait,Romeo is half Doxie and half Basenji. He does the same to his toys.We gave him two yesterday and he has pieces chewed off already and he shakes them like he is killing them.He is laying on the floor next to me and I looked over and he has a piece of paper in his mouth and he looks up at me with this look, like What? They are just too funny.

I had a standard Doxie when I was a kid, I don't remember the toy thing but he would always come home bit up after a fight.  Unfortunately it was the neighbors dog so one of the other was always with stitches. Neither one ever bit a person but if one or the other crossed into the others "territory" the fight was on. He would always roll in something dead and smelly. All this long long before the days when someone would sue over something like this.
I rode my bike further down the road that I was supposed to one day and a neighbors dog ran out and bit my ankle.  My Dad, who was a lawyer, called the neighbor and told them, with his dry sense of humor that the dog bit me.  He told them if the dog got sick in the next week let him know and he would take me out and shoot me. Funny thing my dog never went that way down the road...maybe he knew something I didn't.

This morning I woke up and felt lousy.  Was hungry, but didn't even feel like getting up to fix my breakfast.  Bailey came over to the side of my bed and stared at me.  (Thats what he does when he wants to go outside) So I got up to let him out. Instead of standing by the door to the backyard he ran into the kitchen and stood there like...ok..Mom...fix yourself some breakfast.  Made me cry.

Of course they're family!  I adopted her just like my 3 stepsons!!!  My son & youngest stepson complain that Zena gets treated better than they do.  OK so MAYBE I pamper her too much but who's there to greet me at the door, never complains like the teenagers, does anything & all she wants in return is to feed her, water, cookies, give her clean dishes, bathroom breaks when needed, pet her several times a day.  Not to shabby a return I think.  The teenagers - well let me not go there

Isn't  it  just amazing how much we love these little critters?   As I try to type on my little portable computer setting in a table, Peaches is asleep over my left arm.
I can't disturb her with something as weak as getting a soda, something to eat or GO TO THE BATHROOM.

Oh Susan, this makes me want to go out and get another parakeet, they are so cute.Jinx is saying what about Meeeee! mommy. They are all real sweet. My In laws never had any pets when the kids were growing up.I think people with kids do them such an injustice not having pets to love and play with.My dogs were my playmates as our pets were my children's play mates. They learn love and responsibility. My sister in law said to me I think you love your dogs more than you love your kids, nothing is further from the truth.I told her I love them all the same.

Gale...

I just love having pets!  I had a Teddy Bear hamster named Skippy that passed away about 3 months ago...very sad! A few years ago, I had a variety of tree frogs, a lizard and of course your Tetra fish!

There is one type of bird that I want to get, but it's very expensive...$800.00!  I still would need to buy a cage, food, toys, treats, etc.  So, this may take a few years or hitting the lottery till I get one!!lol lol lol

All my pets are well taken care of, cleaned, good food and they are all wanted!  It's not fair to animals over the holidays or when a movie comes out  like the 101 Dalmatians and the pet stores are bombarded with purchases of dogs, cats, bunnies, etc.  Then when the newness wears off, animals are not wanted anymore and then they are dropped of along the roads or taken to a shelter.  Just not right...this is very upsetting for me to see happen.

Okay, I will get of my soap box now!

I know Susan I feel the same way about all our babies.I have kept all our animals until they passed away.I have taken in dogs and cats ,strays that I could not  keep for one reason or another, usually one of mine didn't get along with them, but I always found good homes for them and even checked to make sure they were getting along.I went to the pet store this one day and they had the cutest little white female poodle tied to a chair, she was on her hind legs dancing and just so happy to see me,I said boy is she cute. They said if you want her you can have her,I said sure. She had been tied to the front of the pet store and left there.I brought her home and we went to the vet that afternoon, she was shaved down because she had fleas real bad and was a momma that had her last litter about two months ago and she was about 2 years old, this what the vet told me.I took her home my oldest boy was around two, well she didn't like him at all and bit him,so I knew I couldn't keep her and she was adorable. So I wasn't going to take her to the pound so I got out the phone book and started calling groomers in the area to see if one of them wanted her.The second call I made the women said yes she would take her.I gave her to the women free,no charge I was just happy I had found a good home for her.I called that women a few months later and she was so happy with that little dog.So she did get a good home.

Family...totally one of the kids.  We have a very little (3 lb.) Yorkie & a big black & white cat.  Flo & Kitty-Kat. They are our babies but the one I want to tell you about is TACO, our precious small cha-wa-wa, (young grandaughter named him).  He was in a real sad way when we got him, ad in paper said free chawawa (yes I know I spelled it wrong...lol), his hair was gone, his leg had been broken & NOT set & he was miserable.  We've had many "friends" in the 44 years we've been married but he was our MOST special.  He was about 8 when he came to live w/ us.  Our VET couldn't even tell how old he was.  We had to put him down at about 14, as 2 pit-bulls attacked him in OUR back yard as my dh was bringing in grocerys, he was mauled but only 1 small bite in one ear but had internal bleeding.  My husband 81 years old is still very saddened w/ his loss.  Taco was "his" dog & buddy.

Glad you got down off the soapbox...makes more room for me!  As a shelter worker, I have to agree with you wholeheartedly about the public seeking the animals currently being touted by the movie industry.  Two recent breeds come to mind immediately, and while I can't even remember the names of the movies, I have total recall when it comes to A.) the people requesting guinea pigs and chihuahuas, and the large numbers of both that were surrendered when, as you said, the newness wore off.  The chi-chis were adopted fairly soon after they came in, as there is always a big demand for the small dogs, mostly due to landlord restrictions.  The g-pigs, however, stayed around for months.  Fortunately, ours is a life-saving shelter and don't euthanize unless an animal has a catastrophic illness or is highly aggressive, and not because one has "run out of time."

Erica...

Thanks for sharing with us...I am sure you see things that are very upsetting.  Thank you for the love you have for our animals and for what you do!

When I worked at our Township office, a call came in that 2 Dalmatian puppies were abandon at the elementary school and they are running around the school yards (winter time).  Our police department had to pick them up, and you should have seen them, skin and bones, shaking and covered in fleas.  They were so loving and all they wanted was attention.  I went home, got dog food, fed them and gave them water, of course I gave them hugs and love.  I would have taken them home, but I already had a Yorkie (Otto) that I was afraid would not adapt to having 2 Dalmatian puppies running around in the house.   Otto was the king of the house for 3 years, having peace and  quiet, then to bring in 2 puppies, it would not have been fair to Otto .  I had to call the animal shelter and it just broke my heart.  Well, I'm sure you can guess what movie came out over Christmas!  I will never forget that and the sad part is, I saw that a lot when I worked there!

When I went to the local humane society to adopt my cats, the Cat Lady there tried hard to persuade me to take black kittens.  All of them were healthy, happy, strong little things and I wanted kittens no one else would take.  The Cat Lady REALLY wanted me to take black ones and I finally asked her why.
She said it was very common, very usual for "certain" people to come to the society and try to take the black cats for evil things and treat them in ways that defied description.  They had to be very careful about who was allowed to adopt a black cat !!!

Heart breaking - but I got my Peaches and Badcat from the back room, where there wasn't much hope for them.
Some time I'll tell VBB how/why I was at that place adopting kittens.
