It's no wonder that some cashiers get confused with the coupons and what is valid or allowable or not.
I used to work part time for Bed Bath and Beyond and at that time we accepted Linens and Things Coupons as well the policy at BB&B was up to 10 coupons any more than that call a manager.  They would usually approve more coupons.  (most of the coupons were the 20% off an item.)
By the way when I started I thought it would be great, getting an employee discount..well the employee discount was..you guessed it 20% off and we could not use coupons with the employee discount.  So everyone walking through the door got the same discount as an employee.  It was still a fun store to work at.

I worked in a grocery store for about 5 years,we didn't have scanners at the time.you had to punch in the price along with the dept.on every item. Each coupon had to be checked and taken off accurately. It was not an easy job.If we were over or under $5.00 in our final count down 5 times in a year you would lose your job. This included taking bad coupons, because these counted as cash. Please have mercy on your cashier it is not an easy job,and to boot you have to smile and be nice to your customers. LOL It is a huge responsibility. We didn't get any discounts, you would think that you would working in a grocery store.we were allowed mark downs,if there were any.You would not believe the theft that went on.I had a sweet older women who came through my line, she put her groceries on the counter and was paying for her groceries,my manager came over and lifted up a sale paper that was draped over her purse. Her purse was loaded with steaks that she was stealing. How embarrassing, she was asked not to return to the store she was lucky we didn't press charges against her.I could write a book on this subject alone. The things that people try and pull.I did very much enjoy my job.Something new and different everyday.

Unbelievable!  Where I do my grocery shopping, there is a woman I would go to all the time who was really fantastic.  I told her that I was going to write a letter to her manager and tell him what a fantastic job she did, how pleasant she was, how efficient, how speedy, how
accurate, etc. Several weeks after I wrote the letter, I asked her if anything was said to her by the manager.  She was surprised that I had written and said that she heard absolutely nothing.  I had brought a copy of the letter with me and gave it to her.  She called the assistant manager over and gave him the letter to bring to the manager's attention.  Ironically, she had only been there several months and she was so good!!!!!!!

Marie,

That is so nice of you to send that letter for the cashier.  I think it means so much to people to get a thank you or to be appreciated.  It may not mean anything to the manager, but it probably made it a really great day for that cashier.  Too many of us do not take the time to thank others for doing a job so well.

I posted the other day on this discussion but it is not here.

I worked as a cashier, only part time, but it can be difficult if the customer is cranky or upset because the items did not ring up correctly and it is how the company had programed the sale that causes many of the customer concerns.  At least this company would have items ring reg. price and just  underneath show  off per that item.  But sometimes they would not show money off until the entire order was rung up.  It becomes a hassle for the cashier to explain, after finding out as the cashier how it is ringing up, so it can be explained to each customer.  It is a big responsibility, the cash flow, correct change, remembering the coupons, smiling and being pleasant.

There was alot of stress associated because if a customer called and said anything negative you would be on the line.  They could be having a bad day, week etc.

There were fraudulent coupons that came from the internet, such as, FREE Velvetta and FREE Dorito's so that is probably the reason for Walmart not accepting those types. Even though there are legit. coupons they, apparantly, won't take the time to decifer between.
