UTILITIES RIP OFF GRANA  here; We have insulated drapes; storm windows  & other fuel saving features in our home WE  keep our thermostat at  63’ all winter.Today or latest  natural  gas bill arrived. Our actual usage  (therms) cost $35 There was a minimum usage fee of $25Also various other fees & taxes bringing our total bill to  $75! We are told to conserve energy & then  get penalized w/  a minimum useage charge ; various  fees & taxes To bring our bill up to   nearly double Wat we actually used & almost what it would have been if  we took no fuel savings measures. What’s w/ this?Does anybody else have this problem?

Here everything is electric and we're not charged any "minimum" fees.   Last bill was exactly $100 and the one before it was $60.
I keep my thermostat set on 68 all day and night.

Unfortunately,we all are slaves to the utility companies,not a whole lot of choices and no where to go.

I agree!  It seems that we try to conserve and still pay higher prices.  Every time I open a bill it seems that it went up from the previous month, but we can't live without heat, lights, etc.

We rarely have any problems (to our knowledge, anyway).  We are on the budget plan and we pay the same amount every month.  Every six months, they recalculate, and we either go up or down....usually down, as I keep it as low (or high in the Summer) as we can stand it.  It comes out of our checking account....so no problems, and no worries!  Can't beat that!

We have only electric and also have a woodstove in the basement.  We have not had an electric bill over $80 and that is usually in the summer with the AC on.  The telephone company is famous for all the taxes and taxes on taxes.  There's a whole list of them on the bill.
Ann, all your additons to your gas bill is indeed a rip off.

The strange thing with utilities around here is water.  We are told to conserve, and then they charge us more because they aren't getting as much money as everyone is conserving!!  How much sense does that make?
We did get new double pane windows at our condo at Tahoe and our natural gas (heating) bill has gone down by a lot.  Plus we don't have wind blowing through the windows.  We were not able to get them on our own as everything had to match, so the condo assoc.  had a vote to replace all windows.  Thank goodness it passed, but it was expensive--special fees.

 GRANA  here;
We  triedto buynewSTORM WINDOWS; but condorulesrequirealto match; limiting
 the places  to by them.The one we found wanted $150 for each window plus over $200 each to install them; any structual problems needing repair will be extra$$$$$$$$$$$
At the time the feds were giving a tax break, but on   SS;our ibcome  was not high enough to make it count.
we plan to checkout places & prices again; til then lined drapes help a lot.
 Our gas bil( heat otwater,dryer & cooking ;  was so low the gas company changed the meter which they claimed/  bellieved ad to be inaccurate.;Funny we stil use the same low  amount of therms; so now they charge us a minimm  surcharge to punish usfor being careful w/our fuel useage; taxes &  misc.  fees are  legal??? and
double our  bill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I feel really good about having a mild winter the Gas Company didn't make all that much off of us this winter :) But as warm as it has been the electric company will get even with us! You just can't win.
