TODAY IS MY GRANDSON'S BIRTHDAY

today is my g.s. 15th b.d.---and he's getting the 2 things he wanted most--------i gave him driving school------he actually got to start that yesterday------- the second thing was granted friday-----

TODAY IS MY GRANDSON'S BIRTHDAY

today is my g.s. 15th b.d.---and he's getting the 2 things he wanted most--------i gave him driving school------he actually got to start that yesterday-------

the second thing was granted friday---------his doctor gave him permission to start fishing and boating again after almost 6 wks of not being allowed to do his favorite thing---------he thinks he wants to be a pro-bass-fisherman-----------because of the risk of infection-----------or even help with my garbage

my g.s. has hemophelia (not severe) but still limiting----------he had torn the skin across his 2nd knuckle--first finger --right hand--on his bedrooom door somehow-----------and any injury requires a trip to---------Texas Childrens Hospital-----------all night for infusion of his factor and observation until it was deemed to be high enough-------------his finger was taped to the next one to protect the stitches-----------that tape was just friday allowed to be removed------------he couldn't play any of his games that require a controller

we have had a hard time keeping him entertained thru this past six wks-----but he's mostly been a trooper---------

Nellie, I am so happy to hear that your Grandson is doing well and wish him a very Happy Birthday. I also have a grandson with Hemophilia. He is 18 and in college in New York. He learned when he was about your grandson's age to infuse himself with factor. (Factor 8) He has become very responsible about it and we are very proud of him. He hopes to become a chemical engineer. He calls himself a "Nerd", but when you get "A's" in college math, chemistry and physics, I'd say that is just fine!! Good Luck to your grandson, I hope he gets to follow his dreams!!

Happy Birthday to your grandson Nellie. As I remember(although it's been a while lol) 15 is a very "trying" age. The time to try everything at least once lol. Glad to hear he's doing better with his medical issues.

Nellie: Happy birthday to your grandson. Glad he is doing better.

I have a problem called von Willebrands disease which is a factor VIII deficiency (therefore I have bleeding problems and need to get the Factor Viii whenever I have surgery or other bleeding problems.!). God bless him and watch over him. He will be fine. Sounds like a very level headed young man. You have every right to be proud of him.

Nellie, I know it is very hard to learn to manage the disease. My grandson, Max wears a "Medic-alert" bracelet or necklace at all times. Max was fortunate in that when he was very young (11 mon.) a port was put into his chest and he received factor on a regular basis. His parents became experts at doing it. They had to replace the port as he grew, but a couple of years ago they removed it completely, and he learned to do it himself. At school in New York ( his family lives in California) he has a refrigerator in his dorm room where he keeps the factor, and the college medical center also keeps a supply. I am surprised by the cost of the factor, as Max uses the kind made from Mice blood, which is more expensive, and his runs about $1000, a dose, but the insurance picks it up all but $10.00.
Most people do not understand much about the disease, as it is not as common as diabetes or something like that, but I hope that more people can become acquainted with it and understand. Hopefully in the future they will come up with a long term treatment, or a cure. All my best wishes to your grandson and tell him to "hang in there".

my g.s.'s factor fluctuates---------and as i said he's not severe---he was diagnosed at age 5 yrs.--------after they finally went to texas children's-----------because his tests were mostly inconclusive--------but when he gets the factor there -they always have a $1,000. co-payment above the rest of the co-pays-------------as i said earlier school was rough because even the school nurse (elem) an r.n. had the idea that if it didn't bleed----it was ok----------and if he didn't use that aspirator within 1 hr-------------he generally had to go to be infused------because sometimes depending on where it is ----the smallest bruise can bleed into a joint and freeze it up

also now that he is fixing to get his license-------i've been trying to talk my son and d.i.l. into getting him a medical alert tattoo--------they're doing that a lot here now-----and emer personnel are checking for them---------my g.s. wants one

and isn't it odd as few of us as are left on this site that 3 of us would have this
