Carol- when I'm getting ready to stir up batter I carefully clean that area and pin back my hair. I really try hard.
BUT --- a while ago I took a bowl of cookies to a church dinner and I was talking to a woman I just don't
have peace with ..... You know what she got. ~blush blush~

When my children were in school, I was amazed when they came home with the allowable amount of rodent hair, feces, etc. that are allowed in our processed foods by the FDA. Yuck

When you have health issues, you cannot imagine the amount of fats, salt, sugars, etc. that are in our foods. Homemade is definitely better since we can control so much of what our families eat. I got an e-mail from a friend about "meat glue" which is a toxic that is used to make what you might think is a roast, but really pieces of meat glued together that really don't cook as well and can really be a cause of some of the cancers that we are getting.

er, ah, hmmmm, Gale ........ well, I use cat hair. ( teasing - just teasing) I've wonder why people buy cookies - especially like Walmart cookies. How on earth can you buy a pkg on March 1 and see that it won't expire until Match 1 the next year? How can you read the ingredients and then eat it? And a few weeks ago I was passing through the cookie aisle in WalMart and an attractive young woman was holding the hand of a young child. Both were glowing!! She was telling him to pick out some cookies, it was his birthday and he could have any cookie he wanted. What happy and excited people. I wanted to go tell her to bake some cookies with him ... show him how good cookies were made, how good cookies tasted, what fun baking could be. Of course I didn't but gee ..............

Not to mention the lessons he would learn during that hour that it took to make the cookies.
Measuring, reading and following directions. Not to mention the wonderful conversation that the experience would give both. The "just them together" time that can not be purchased for any amount. That would be a Birthday Gift in itself.
I would not give up the time I spend in the kitchen with my Grandson for anything.
We have a great time planning and looking for recipes.

Nancy, with all the cookies you bake and give away, if anyone has a problem with "1 Hair" they need to make their own lol. No matter what I do, I lose hair all over the house. It's a wonder I have any left on my head, and I can't blame it on any animals since I don't have any lol. But it's rare to find one in anything I cook or bake since I usually put it up when I'm in the kitchen. Oh well, it's all protein anyway lol.

If the hair is found in a baked product, at least it is sterilized after being in the oven. I never let stuff like that bother me

My mother always did homemade when we were growing up. Helping Mom in the kitchen with the baking was always a fun thing. I still remember making my first cake (age 8) and my first cream puffs.

I also have many Guinea Pigs that are willing to try an experiment. I also have many that tell me that my "failures" are wonderful and they are willing to take any failure I wish to pass along.
The first time with a new recipe I follow... it after that who knows what I will do with it. I like to change things and try different flavors. Sometimes the new version is better sometimes not.

Nikki,
I do the same (follow a recipe the first time I make it & the next time I might change it), there have been times when I made something & hubby really liked it & I forgot what I did, so now I try to jot down the changes as I am cooking.
There have been some recipes that I thought were so bad that I did not think I could make them edible

I wish that I could convince my husband not to buy all the junk food. He thinks he is saving me work, but are we shortening our lives with all the junk that is put in processed foods? Look what happened to the animals with the food coming out of China...
