Like most of you, the first time I try a recipe I usually follow it, but make changes the next time.  I do cut the sugar in quick breads and the oil, no matter what.

I have been trying to keep hubby away from McD's for years now.He went the other day to buy breakfast. He was eating his sausage biscuit and found small splintered bones and got sick to his stomach just from the thought of what it may have been.I pray everyday for him to quit  eating fast food.God works in mysterious ways.THANK YOU GOD! He said he will never eat fast food again. :)

My family does not like to eat at fast food places so I am lucky in one way.
But that also means I have to cook more. That is ok because I love to cook.

Homemade is better cause I know what went into it and I can truly take credit for the compliments.

Today(on another website) somebody made fun of  a recipe because it included canned beans.  Said it wasn't "home-made" then proceeded to list how she would make it.  I was really tempted to ask her if she makes her own mustard and her own sweetener(she had Splenda as an ingredient).  Oh well, always somebody out to spoil the party.

I see nothing wrong with using some convenience foods, like canned beans or other veggies, as ingredients in something "home-made".  After all, the final result is always made by someone in their "home".

Home made IS better -- better tasting and certainly better for you but swinging by some place for some take-out is so fast and easy.
And sometimes I'm horrified by the amount of $$ I spend on making/baking stuff.  It's cheaper to dash by Jack in the Box and get some egg rolls  ....... or go to the Chinese restaurant and get some real egg rolls.

Last night I cooked for myself ...... BBQ baby pork spare ribs, baked potato with sour cream and onions, refried beans, salad with tomatoes and grapes plus some great bread.  That cost a lot more than dinner out.

H.M.I have to agree with you homemade only goes so far.Pretty much all we cook is semi homemade.Unless you have a farm and are able to produce your own foods, everything is semi home made.Even then the Good Lord had his hand in all of it.We just assemble things and pray it comes out good.
