I was definitely against the reminders of aging, but yesterday I got the best surprise in the world. My husband with the help of my brother planned a super surprise birthday for my landmark 70th. I do

You had  myidea of  theperfect 50th  anniversaryparty&I'm glad you enjoyed it.I don't think we'll ever havea lovely time like that provided by anyone.Our 50th is coming up on May27th this year & I have not so subtly  mentioned it every place & as often as posible( even here onVBBB)
****The closest   we came was the year our  oldest  son & his wife came for a visit...... I was taken by force  by hubby to shop for a sleeping bag for  the  sleepover party one  grandaughter  would soon be attending.Hubby usually likes to shop( look &  leave  quickly)  This day he kept looking at different styles &  in different storesSurprised
When we finally got  back home; a lovely meal was waiting for us: salad bar; lasagna; Italian pastries , the works; served on my dining room table using my best lace table linens, dishes & flatware . Fresh flowers on the table. d-i-l kept apologizing for using my "good stuff' w/o permission I told her "permission is granted"&she did a lovely job of everything..Kiss Then the dishes ; dining room &  kitchen were cleaned  up to her better than my standards; all-in- all "a thoughtful & lovely gift from them to usKiss

I haven't had a surprise birthday party, but our children and grandchildren surprised us with a 50th wedding anniversary party.  My daughter asked us to go out to dinner in San Francisco with them to celebrate our anniversary, and when we arrived at her house, there were at least 50 people there to help us celebrate.   They did a beautiful job.  My grand daughters were waitresses passing out appetizers, My son in law ( a gourmet cook) and my daughter in law made all the food.  My son had put together a slide show of family pictures, and my daughter had done all the invitations, RSVP's and buying of all the food and decorations.  It was a beautiful party and surprise.

I'm so glad that your family had a surprise party for you.  That is just wonderful.


I've never had a surprise birthday party, but I have been extremely surprised on my birthday.  For my 21st birthday, my best friend came over to take me to dinner.  At least that's what she told me.  She ended up taking me to the airport and we got on a plane to Cincinnati.  I was totally in shock, but the shocks kept coming.  When we arrived in Cincinnati, another one of our friends picked us up at the airport.  He decorated his car like a taxi cab and drove us to a hotel where another one of our friends was waiting.  The next day, we went to Kings Island and then drove back home.  It was an incredible day and one that I will never forget.

Nancy - I feel very fortunate to have these friends.  We have been friends since grade school
                and still get together at least once a year   to  "catch up" with each other.  I know that I
                could count on them for anything.

GRANA   here;  Hubby's idea of "' surprise" party for  me is to take me for a  haircut( the works including condition &  blowdry styling after first encouraging me to "dress up"Then when I'm all" dolled up a wrist corsage or one pinned onto my dress is given & off we go  to a fave restaurant of mine( not necesariy his fave either; though mostly we both enjoy the same places .  It's always a treat  &  works for me!
