Last year was not as good as previous years and peppers were awful. This year I want to dry tomatoes,it's a lot easier then canning and cheaper too.A lot less space is needed for storage.

If I have any extra tomatoes, I make spaghetti sauce out of them.  Very yummy and my kids with eat the sauce.

Hi Debbie, homemade sauce is awsome.I've canned green tomatoes,I pickled them. You can wrap green tomatoes in newspaper and store them in cardboard box in a cool dry place and they will ripen.I remember one year  we had ripe tomatoes on Christmas from our garden.

aaaaaaaaaagggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I took a deep breath and bought two plants -- one nice big things and one cherry variety.
This mornings hail and wind ruined the big one.   And we lost power from noon to 9:35.

Nancy,  I'm so sorry about your big tomato plant! Your state has really been hit bad by the weather
yesterday and today and Tuesday! You've had a lot of rain lately too! I'm praying for nice weather
for you! I'm praying for all the people affected by the tornado!

I must say that living in a gated community, I sure miss the ability to even grow tomatoes. There is nothing like a tomato from your own garden!

I love fresh tomatoes - right off the vine.  But my gardening skills are very bad!

I usually give tomatoes away but this is great.  You can save it till you need it.  I will try it.

Gale, My mom told me about that trick a few years ago and I have been doing it every year.  I don't think I've ever had tomatoes last until Christmas, but they sure do taste great later in the year.

Many years ago my Great Grandfather had a spring house and a smoke house on his property. My Grandparents also had a smoke house.

Angela: We live in a gated community with HOA rules also, and have a "postage stamp" sized back yard. So I grow tomatoes and herbs in pots on my patio.
