yesterday the man who killed my son's neighbor 2 yrs ago was convicted of murder, although he claimed self-defense---------surprising in texas------a big Stand your ground state---------but he took his own video camera with him when he went to complain about a noisy party---and he was saying  "i'm in fear for my life" ----- before he even reached the other house, practiced from his cdl classes

the young man he killed was a middle school pe teacher----a husband, father , son and brother---------he was having a bd party for his wife---------------a karioke machine was involved-----------there were kids present------------my g.s. had been over there with some of his friends and had returned home before the shooting but heard it all--------------the police had been called more than once by this individual ---------they told him the noise was with-in acceptible levels

the perp was a retired firefighter who had been a neighborhood bully for yrs-----------he had pulled his gun numerous times on animals, kids and adults-------------his union said he was the only member ever voted out by the membership

since monday last week the news channels have been showing this video tape he made------showing this young man facing him with his arms in the air -------------and the perp repeating i'm gonna have to shoot---i'm in fear for my life----------------at last today this jury will get to hear ALL about this individual and maybe they will give him life as he deserves
a really sad part of the story is that his father (by coincidence my neighbor) didn't live long enough to see justice  as he passed away last month

Sad, sad story!!!  It's a shame we have to always be looking over our shoulders, afraid of what's coming.  We don't go out at night!  When the street lights are ready to come on, we are home!  What is becoming of our FREE country when we have to be afraid for our life, even in our own home!!??

Boy this sounds a lot like a shooting we had here a few years ago.The man who murdered these people was a firefighter also.He had complained for years to police about the neighbor kids being loud.I think it was forth of July and they were shooting off fireworks which is against the law here and they were purposely trying to irritate this guy..The firefighter had had just about enough and went to the neighbors and shot and killed three people. This doesn't make the killing right by any means. They thought it was funny to irritate this guy and he snapped. Now there are three people dead,a husband and a father behind bars for the rest of his life.Very sad,one moment of anger changed the lives of many people.

Noticed a police car in my neighbor's driveway this morning.  As it turns out, she had taken her son to day care and was returning home.  She noticed a blue car behind her but didn't think much of it until she turned off a country road to drive by and see her daughter.  This car also turned.  Melissa turned around and drove away because her daughter wasn't home.  The car again followed her.  She got to a main highway and then turned on to the highway outside our development.  She really got worried when she put her turn signal on to enter the development and so did the car.  Because we live on a cul-de-sac, that blue car had to circle past our houses and left our development.  She was smart enough to get the license plate number.  She called our neighbor, the policeman and when he came, he advised her that she had good reason to be alarmed, since that car had followed her over seven miles, a red light that something wasn't right.   She is driving one of the cars that is a favorite with car thieves and I have to wonder if they wanted to take her car.

The driving she was doing wasn't open road driving, it was back roads and then town roads and finally, the highway to our development.  Scary!!

in this case other neighbors had tried more than once to file charges against the perp--------for toting his gun around and making threats to children and other adults-------------because of his chl no charges were ever filed-----------he was a bad situation waiting to explode--------------although he was  "retired" from a local fire dpt-----------it was because of problems with his paranoia -he could not work w/ others

So sad Nellie.

Bakery1, I don't think I would have driven home,  I would have driven to the police station or other populated location.  I also would have called the police while this car was following me.
It is nice that she was aware of what was going on.  So many are involved on the phone or just not paying attention that I am sure most people would not have noticed someone was following them.

Driving to a police station or even a fire station is always a good idea.  Calling someone from your car unless you are pulled over to a stop is NOT a good idea.  In California it is against the law to use your cell phone while driving.  TEXTing is also against the law.  Large fines apply!!!

I guess I should add that using "Blue tooth" is all right, but distracted driving in any form is a bad idea.

GRANA here;
Sad story; JUSTICE CAN BE BLIND...So much violence;one never knows stand ground or  retreat?
It's scarey. We have a noisy alcoholic neighbor &hubby confronted him several times, police calmed him down. He sobered up, I guess? & he now  seems quieter for the most part. The drunk's wife & I were both in fear of escallation of violernce from words to worse. The guy has a gun &  often displays it threateningly..I don't know what the poice officer did/said  but things have been quieter lately. Before this the wife & I were on speaking/neighborly terms. He stayed away.
I live in fear that we wll be the next sad story on the news 'cuz hubby cannot stand the hammering on the floor above us at all hours.

Ann,Please you and your hubby be careful. My mom used to say this "You can be dead right too" Never really got the meaning in my younger years but I sure do now. From auto accidents to disputes. It's a shame that you have to deal with this guy. There is always someone there to spoil it for everyone.I can't tolerate a drunk,it just seems they can do or say anything and somehow get away with it.I have mentioned this before"The more responsible you are,THE MORE RESPONSIBLE YOU ARE! ie: Auto insurance it's the law yet some still don't have so we the responsible people have to insure ourselves against the irresponsible. My hubby can't tolerate nonsense either and I fear for him that he will get hurt or worse getting into an altercation.

So sad that, even though owning a gun is legal, that so many "nut jobs" can get one.  I can't even imagine what goes through someone's mind when they take a gun with them to talk to a neighbor.  Of course there are those who say noone should have a gun.  But then only the criminals would have them, a scary thought.

Let's just pray that justice isn't blind in this guy's case Nellie.  If he's that unstable nobody will be safe.

We all have to be aware all the time.  So many bad things happening to people these days.  Stay safe my friends.

let me state clearly-------i am not against guns or the stand your ground law----------

just mentally ill people who happen to pass the course and get a permit to carry------------

texas is very lax on this matter-------------since they recognize courses from other states too---------recently it has been in the news about being able to get a cert on-line for money from one of these states

texas stand your ground law is also very lenient-------------------so the jury could actually have gone the other way---------since they only learned in the punishment phase yesterday --some of the truly awful things he had done          and the fear and loathing of his neighbors and co-workers    for several yrs before he did this

Like the guy who killed the kid in FL who was walking along minding his own business.  He claims self defense, but the guy was in a car to begin with and the kid was walking.  If the guy got out of his car and started in on the kid, of course the kid would try to defend himself. The guy was totally in the wrong and should be up for murder.

Sad stories for all.  What's the world come too?  Worth getting a ticket/Rules or not, I would've took out my phone & called the cops while I was driving and at NO time would I get off a main road or drive to my house or someone else's house.

Very sad story.  It is a shame that no one recognized that this man was a "problem" or could do anything about it.
