A week has been set aside to remind  us that " special needs" kids ARE NOT FREAKS; THEY ARE PEOPLE & LIKE  ALL people PEOPLE, NEED TO FEEL ACEPTED & APPRECIATED.
.

A bit of "SELF TALK" aLL KIDS "special needs " or not; are "SPECIAL";  ALL  to be accepted  & encouraged. It's not so different for adults!  ; accept, encourage  & appreciate all those w/ whom you come in contact ; DAILY. [ starting w/yourself& your own family] Think how much better this world would be if we ALL felt accepted & appreciated?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How much more productive we'd all be if we felt encouraged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI ANN,
I SO AGREE.THEY ARE NOT FREAKS,WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT. I WORKED WITH MENTAL AND PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PEOPLE FOR OVER 5 YRS.THEY ARE SOME OF THE KINDEST PEOPLE AROUND. I'AM TIERD OF PEOPLE PICKING ON THEM.WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL I WOULD COME TO THE DEFENSE OF THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE.I JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY ANYONE HAS TO PICK ON ANYONE ELSE.GROW UP.
MY CHILDREN PLAYED IN CHARITY SOFTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL GAMES WITH OUR SPECIAL FRIENDS. YOU ARE SO RIGHT WE ALL ARE SPECIAL.WE WENT TO PARTIES, COOKOUTS, OUTINGS WITH OUR FRIENDS.I STILL SEND HOLIDAYS CARDS TO THEM, VISIT THEM WHEN WE CAN. I HAVE GONE TO MANY FUNERALS.THESE SPECIAL PEOPLE HAVE TOUCHED MY LIFE. THEY GAVE ME THAT EXTRA RAY OF SUNSHINE EVERY DAY.
YES  YOU ARE RIGHT THE WORLD WOULD BE SUCH A BETTER PLACE IF WE ALL OPENED OUR EYES AND HEARTS.THANKS FOR YOUR THAUGHTS.

I agree with you.  we have a grndson who was hit in eye with a rock.  He has lost his sight in that eye.  He is now a special child but we treat him as our other grandchildren.  They are all special to us and each needs something different.

My granddaughter is learning American Sign Language in High School.  She is taking it in place of a foreign language.  She loves it as she is a dancer, and she sees it as dancing with her hands.  A couple of weeks ago she went to a amusement park with some deaf children.  She had a wonderful time interacting with the children, and had fun at the park at the same time.  She hopes to major in special education in college in a couple of years.

I agree with everything that everyone has said.  We are all different and we are all special in our own ways.  We all need to be accepted and appreciated.
