What has happened to you recently?  What are you proud of?

I have been an Election Judge in the past.  Much easier now than in the past.  With as fast as the returns are processed you should get done quickly.  When I did it my day would start at 5am since you had to be there before the polls opened to make sure they opened on time and everything was operating properly.  Then at the end of the day you had to stay until all the votes were counted and then the absentee votes were then counted in.  There were some elections when I did not get out of the polling place until close to midnight.
Very much different now.  The process is so much faster.
It is a very interesting process and it makes you feel so good to be able to participate like that.
Congratulations Nancy.  Very much deserved!!

I worked elections for several years.  They really need good volunteers who are willing to do a good job.  Nancy, I'm sure you will fit the bill.  As nikki says it is much easier now, than in the past.  The fun part is you get to see all your neighbors and catch up with what they are doing, but you do have to tend to business!  Good Luck!!

I just thought of something...The real reason you were asked....COOKIES
The poll workers require cookies from 6am until at least 6pm.  They live on cookies after the morning donuts run out.
I am sure brownies will work as well.

LOL LOL LOL ...... oh Nikki, when the nice woman on the phone said I had to be at the polls from 5:30 AM to 7PM, I said, "Oh my goodness, that's a long, long day.  Where  do they eat?".
She answered, "Everyone get to know each other so well.  They bring a packed lunch and everyone brings cookies".  LOL LOL LOL
Aha - that's how I was selected.  My fame as a cookie master knows no bounds.  LOL LOL LOL

They were very smart to invite you - they KNOW about your cookies!

Your cookies were a good incentive for them to invite you - among other reasons.

I've been working the elections for the past few years.  Couldn't do any last year due to pain and surgery, but am scheduled for this April.  We have to be there by 6, and then have to stay until the votes are all counted, mostly by hand, because the people here in Oshkosh seem very reluctant to use the electronic voting maching...The worst part is weeding out the write-in votes...pretty sure Michael  Jackson and Mickey Mouse were not running this time.  I don't think the jokers who do things like that understand that we still have to count their votes!  The best part?  The food and treats the poll workers bring in!

I worked the polls many years ago, when working part-time. Thanks for the idea - now that I'm "retired" I should go volunteer my services again.

I was called for Jury Duty 2 weeks ago but they didn't need our pool this time around.

My mom used to work the elections.  She really enjoyed it.  She loved to socialize with everyone that came in.  However, she did say it was a very long day.

Any cookie or bar type treat is always welcome.  It just has to be easy to hold in one hand.  Not real messy or sticky.
The only caution I would have for you....this may break your heart though...
With a lot of people with nut allergies, and some parents bring their children in to the polling place, some polling places are in schools as well, I would eliminate all nuts from the cookie or other baked good you bring in.
Some have such a sensitivity to nuts that just the smell will cause a reaction.  The possibility of having a nut oil on a piece of paper that you hand someone may also cause a reaction.

It is a very long day, but here they actually pay the poll workers by the hour, so most of us don't mind!  This year, I'll have to be careful what treats I eat - since I was diagnosed with diabetes last year, I need to be aware of carbs and sugar.  No fair!!!  But they also feed us lunch and dinner during the day, and there is always a huge veggie tray as well as subs for lunch and pizza for dinner - I'll need to really chow down on that to ease the urge to grab every cookie in sight! :)

I am a Master Gardener.  We had our free Home and Garden Show the middle of February - a great success.  We start planning the previous July for this event.  Master Gardeners classes are offered thru most Extension Offices and are open to all ages. races and religions.
