Now is the season for giving,do something nice for an elderly person or someone who is in need. Most of us already do this. This should be a happy time for all of us but for some it is a very depressing

I talk about church a lot, don't I?   Well, that place teaches me a lot.  Once at Sunday Evening service the pastor looked around the room and said he knew some of us were OK and some of us were struggling.   He suggested that the OK ones could just hand $20 to the less comfortable people and suggest  the man and wife go out to dinner together and we could do the baby sitting for one evening.   If we knew someone was struggling with a house payment, maybe we could help make one.  We could give a college student $5 and make his day.    There's so much we can do for each other.

In Response to Re: Do something nice.:
One of the members of my church is a police office in the 'big city'.  His wife told him I took cookies to the local police station and he came to me this morning to say that there's no way I can even imagine how much  the police appreciated someone saying "Thanks" and knowing they are out there on a holiday. That strengthens my plan to take something on New Years

Nancy, that officer is right that is one job that has a lot of negativity and very little thanks. When i was still driving and going to the airport I would bake huge cookie trays and take 6 foot subs to the police stationed at the airport.I also did this for the National Guard when they were stationed there right after 9/11.Just a small thank you for protecting my family while we were at the airport. They couldn't thank me enough.Believe me they appreciate it.

Otherwise we'll use the ones I found and hope for the best.

This really puts into perpective as to what a necessity is.A necessity isn't getting your hair or nails done,or having cable or even a computer.Food, water, shelter and clothing are our basic needs and once these needs are met we don't need anything.,well medication in some instances are a necessity. We WANT a lot of things, but we don't NEED them. When we are feeling bad about not getting want we want or think we need ,just remember this picture, these poor children are even getting their needs met.Remember how blessed we are to have what we do have. Thanks for posting Nancy this is surely food for thought.

My sister in law is paraplegic and we always send food to her on all the holidays.  Also to her aid and the elderly woman who lives upstairs from her.  If I make something different, I always send it to her and the rest of them.
