I've never seen so much snow before.We never had this as a kid.My son is going on his 5th snow day.I'm sure there will be one tomorrow.As a kid he thinks it is just great.I guess we all did as a kid.

I've never seen so much snow before.We never had this as a kid.My son is going on his 5th snow day.I'm sure there will be one tomorrow.As a kid he thinks it is just great.I guess we all did as a kid. As you get older not so much.
I said as a joke to my son." I wonder how much snow God has left in heaven ?" . He laughs and tells me " An endless supply like his love.He is just sharing the snow".I laughed an told him he could go shovel.He starts moaning. Isn't that why they have snow days? For kids to shovel..Haha.

That's a sweet story.Our son grumbles when he has to shovel snow also! I always tell him hard work keeps you honest.He says he is very honest then.You and I have great kids,we have a lot to be thankful for.God bless you and take care.

Don't have snow but it is 5 below my water pipes are frozen so we have no water is this worse then snow

we aren't getting the snow. hard rain tonight and wed. i feel bad with everyone getting hit with all the snow. my son lives in phila and his car is covered and they don't get plowed till all the main streets are done . its a mess up there like ny and nj i pray for all the states getting the snow

Oh, Mary L .... that's awful! Right now I am so very frightened of that and I have no idea what to do. The council on TV keept talking about the many power outages that are bound to hit. What do you do without power when it's below 0*. I can do without lights but I'm worried about the food in my freezers ---- do I just set the food outside where it's colder? The big fear is frozen/burst pipes. What do you do?

I am a first time poster, but am not a first time "kids at home." I am from SW MO and I know about no water or power from a few years ago. The best thing for your food is to keep it in the fridge or freezer. Open only when you have to. If you know a storm is coming, stockup on water and other supplies. I have a propane grill with a side burner that I used in the house to cook on. It was in a well ventilated area. I have also baked cakes on the grill as well. My kids have their normal chores of feeding the livestock to keep them busy as well as a pool table to work on their eye/hand coordination. Enjoy the weather and know that God only gives us what we can handle.

I have a daughter at Missouri State University at Springfield and a Son at the University of Ark. Fayetteville. They both don't have classes and we talk over the computer. They know how to handle the cold as well. Right now the snow is going horizontilly and the wind is howling. I was told as a child that the Angels were having a feather pillow fight.

Rita, well said. It is amazing to find out what we can handle when we have to. It gives you a moment to think about what it was like 50, 75, 100 years ago. We are lucky to live in a time when they can somewhat accurately predict this so we can prepare.

Nancy if your pipes are on an inside wall you probably don't have to worry much. For the pipes on an outside wall you can leave the water going just a trickle and leave the cabinet door open, the cabinet under the sink not all the cabinets.

Mary feel bad for you with out water. I hope it is resolved soon. Buckets of melted snow will help so at least toilets will flush.

And the "kick in the keester" I needed this morning...I was with a woman this morning helping her do exercises, she is in a wheelchair and she said she would love to be ABLE to go out and shovel snow. That was my reality check today!

Everybody stay safe.
Tomorrow is Groundhog day...will he or won't he see a shadow?

I doubt seriously that the groudhog will even want to venture outside tomorrow if we get even half of the snow predicted lol. Getting the snow is bad enough but the wind and chilly temps are beyond belief. Hope the weathermen are all wrong about how much we'll get but will have to wait and see. Stay warm and safe everyone.

I am definitely tired of all this snow, but I don't think we are done yet. I am a firm believer in the saying that we only get what we are able to handle so I guess we will all figure out how to deal with it.

Without even seeing the groundhog, I think we are stuck with 6 more weeks of winter!

Hope everyone stays safe out East. Nikki is right on letting the water run a little
bit and keep the cabinet door open. Nancy might have a problem with the cats
who will want to get in the cabinet. We had to baby proof all of our cabinet
doors so the cats couldn't get in. When I lived in MI, we had a mobile home
and would put heater tape around the pipes so it wouldn't freeze. That
worked until it went below zero, so we would let the water run. This storm
looks really nasty.

Nikki is this the lady with MS? It is really great that you help her with her exercises!!!
My sister who had MS, had a feeding tube for the last 4 years of her life. Everytime I
went over to her house I would take a choc. shake and she just loved it! She still could
swallow it. I really miss her and she has been gone 9 years.

We in California have been reading about all the rest of the country and the awful weather you have been having. I have a great deal of sympathy for all of you. We are happy to hear about snow in the Sierras as that means more snow for the skiers and more water for the rest of the state. We have had a drought, and it is nice to hear that our reservoirs are full.
My husband talked to his childhood friend yesterday who lives in New York, and he also mentioned that he has never seen so much snow. We keep pointing out all that is going on to our grandson, who just was accepted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Inst. in Troy, New York for next Fall. It will be interesting to see how a California Kid copes with the weather.
As far as the frozen pipes we have friends who have cabins in the mountains and they let their toilets run just a little all the time.

I hate to shovel snow. If I were in school and had nothing else to do, I still don't think I would like it! I was the one inside reading while others were out freezing - in the effort to have a good time. Or maybe just because the Moms sent them outside to give themselves a few minutes peace.

When the snow finally stops here --- tomorrow afternoon? --- a crew of young men will arrive to shovel walks and driveways. I'll take them cocoa and, of course, cookies. The street won't be cleared by that little crew will arrive and clean everything else - lol

The town houses across the street have garages in back so there's a back "alley". All day today a little pick-up with a big blade has been going back and forth, over and over, all over this small subdivision.

Barbara - almost 40 years ago I moved from Missouri to California .... 3 1/2 years there - then to North Dakota. I made the tremendous adjustment with no trouble. lol. Left ND to go back to CA - over and over.
