Because, like I said, I went into the hospital the morning I smoked my last one.  I had expressed worry about that to my neuro so I was given one of those stick-on nicotine patches.... and a new patch every morning.  When that distressing VEEG was over I bought my own patches and used those for about 60 days.
And - lol - it never entered my mind that I could do this.  I kept my usual two cartons in the drawer beside my head (at my work table) and the usual two cartons in the freezer.  Oh, I wanted a cigarette .  So I used that panic 'need' for a smoke.  When I was desperate I would tell myself that I certainly could have one in exactly one hour .... and so on.  I just kept promising myself one in a certain amount of time.  I never told myself that I could not have one.
Months later I gave away my two cartons.  More months later I took the two cartons out of the freezer and mailed them to the GIs overseas.

I never have smoked.  I find that I have a very low tolerance for smoke now that so many places do not allow it any more.  I guess I was more used to it when I was constantly exposed to smoke.  But I would never spend that much money for something I was planning to burn.

Neither hubby or I smoke. You can't smoke on beaches or playgrounds in San Diego area.

I have never smoked either and cannot tolerate being near smoke.  I don't even like being near someone who has just smoked and has it on his/her clothing.
There's a guy who services equipment at work who needs a hip replacement and they won't do it until he has been off smoking for a year.  Meantime he is really having a hard time.  Any other reason not to smoke???

I never smoked and never will.  My parents didn't smoke either, but my grandmother smoked.  She died from cancer.  My dad was told by his father that if he didn't smoke he would buy him a car.  That was a very big incentive in the late 1920s.
My husband smoked when we got married, and continued for a long time.  He didn't smoke in the house as our son had asthma.  I must say that our cars in the garage were always polished and the dog went on lots of walks.   However about 15 years ago he decided that he should quit ( he had been smoking a pipe for quite a few years).  He quit cold turkey and hasn't smoked since.
Neither of our children or their spouses smoke.  Generally we are a nonsmoking family.

Dirty, filthy, disgusting habit but somebody has to support the tobacco farmers. NOT.  I smoked a pack a day for 50 years with never a problem. Gave up the cigarettes BUT  smoke 2 cigars a day because I like it.
