Senior or Mature Driving Class

I have been taking a 'senior driving class" online. My husband talked me into it saying it would reduce our auto insurance costs. I must say that this class is the most tedious, boring class I have ever taken!!! It is a real drag. I am over half way done, and just hoping I will get through it quickly (not likely). It is good for 3 years. I vow that in 3 years I will take a class, but will go to one that AARP puts on locally. A day in a class that is at least interesting is far better than this. Thanks for letting me vent!

The auto insurance I have is really, really great but I'd sure like to hear more about this.

My husband went through that class from AARP and yes the discount was only three years Hardly worth the time spent in a class where he almost fell a sleep!

They asked me to have him come back in after the tests were graded and he thought I was joking until his supervisor came out and said it was a serious matter. He had to retake the test. I had to put up with a total grumpy jerk for the next several weeks.

My husbands company sent all the drivers and their spouses if they wanted to go to a driving school. We got a very nice discount off of our insurance for 3 years. I think we saved about $125 total and that is not bad. We also got a free lunch with it. The only bad thing was..I passed with flying colors and my husband (a truck driver) failed! They asked me to have him come back in after the tests were graded and he thought I was joking until his supervisor came out and said it was a serious matter. He had to retake the test. I had to put up with a total grumpy jerk for the next several weeks.

I found my senior driving class to be boring also. There was nothing new to learn.

I'm a member of AAA but not AARP (I used to be, but no longer) ...... wonder why I haven't heard about any classes. I'll do boring to save money!

I don;t think it is worth the discount with a good record you can get a good rate on your insurance.

Senior (or refresher) driving classes are not the only boring ones. My youngest daughter is currently taking Drivers Ed to get her permit when she turns 15. She is bored out of her mind for most of it, and told me "It's all common sense!"
Of course it's required, so she'll put up with it.

Check at Senior Centers they often have the classes at the centers put on by AARP. If you are concerned about someone some hospitals have driving programs where the person is subjected to hours of testing some on the road.
Check a large hospital to find out if they have a Neuroscience Department that would have the information.
Alzheimer's Association may also have this information.

My auto insurance company has great rates AND sends me a refund each 6 months....
Well, they tell me how much the refund is and ask if I want it or would like to have it applied to my next premium.
I'll still take a class to get a bigger refund - lol

I finally finished the class and passed (YEAH!) and now we get a 5% discount on our insurance. We did ours through AAA. I'm sure if you ask, they can tell you how to access the online class. It cost about $16 for members and about $20 for nonmembers. Our city parks and recreation department offers AARP classes on a regular basis. They also sponsor the senior programs. I'm just glad it is over!!!

Nancy I have several friends who dropped out of AARP. We only renewed for one year but I think we are going to drop it next year as it is expensive if you don't get anything but a magazine out of it.
