Senior Discounts Keep this list - - - and Send a copy to your senior friends and relatives. As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 gets 10% off everything on the menu, every day.

This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50.

This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family, too.  Pass it on! Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55. If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting it for free.

I always ask if there is a senior discount.  I have friends that will not just because it makes them feel "old".  I figure every discount I can get is money in my pocket and allows me to spend more later.
There are some places I go where a coupon is a better deal than the senior discount. Sweet Tomatoes Restaurant has a senior discount but the coupons they have are often better than the discount.  The discount card I get from Goodwill is sometimes better than the senior discount.  It is a good idea to ask or know the policy. (Just like we have discovered trying to use coupons at the grocery store)

also my grocery, kroger, gives srs. a 10% discount on all store brand products incl meat every day------plus a total purchase discount of 20% on tuesdays--and you don't have to remind them because it's already coded in your customer card that gives you all the discounts and gasoline points

A lot of places around here (in addition to the ones mentioned) will honor AARP cards and/or Golden Buckeye.  (Golden Buckeye is for those over 62....10% off)  We take advantage of any and all discounts we are eligible for....if it is not mentioned in their Ad.....I always ask any way.  At one place, I asked every time we went there, even though I knew thay did not have a discount.  After about 100 times my asking, by golly!, they now have one.

a lot of these restaurants and other places are owned by a franchisee              and are not bound by some of these things
thats why a lot of ads say at participating stores

I found out when setting up the utilities at this new house the village we live in offers a senior discount on the water service and the garbage pick up also offers a senior discount.  The village sticker for seniors is only $1.00.  This all was a big surprise since we had moved from an un incorporated area into an incorporated area.  Also the services at the other house had been set up for years by my husband and although I paid the bills I never thought about senior discounts.
So I save a bit each month.  Still costs more because I was on a well before and the only cost there was the electricity to run the well pump. On the up side when there is a power outage here we have water.

Wow, Renee, thanks for the great list of discounts. And in alphabetical order, no less. Thanks for taking the time to prepare and post it. I was aware of several of these, but certainly not all of them. We also get a discount on our trash pick up from Waste Management.

My Dad used to refuse to ask for discounts because, as someone else mentioned, it made him feel old...me, as soon as I was old enough, I started asking (grin).  Thanks so much for that great list!

You are most welcome as always Carol!  My motto has always been...."if you don't ask; you don't receive and the worst they can say is "no", right?"  Same goes for our military discount! I'm all about saving money where ever possible.  We even keep track of our spending/savings each month.  It's amazing how the savings add up! Cool

Renee, re: keeping track of your savings/spending each month, I do the same and have for about 30 years. Also about 5 years ago I started actually taking the savings I accumulated from using coupons at the grocery store and I buy savings bonds with that money. My store receipt shows the savings from double coupons, I get that amount of cash and put it aside until I have enough to buy a bond. Some months I need to dip into my cash, but usually I can hang onto it. It's amazing how much $$$ I've saved! I'm going to use the bonds to help my sons pay for their weddings...if that ever happens! lol lol
