In Response to Re: How are you saving money on meals with all the increases?:
I found ground turkey on sale for $1.99 # I bought 20# each in one pound packages .I froze them ,now when I want to make something containing ground beef I use the ground turkey.Meatballs, chili, tacos, burritos, meatloaf, etc.Ground turkey really is a great substitute for anything using ground beef,it's more economical, lower in fat and higher in protein.Adding bread crumbs and favorite seasonings it's make a great burger too! I found tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato puree and whole tomatoes in heavy puree for 80 cents a can 28 oz size I bought 20 cans,Ragu spaghetti sauce was on sale for .99cents for the 24 oz,size I bought 12 of those to stock away, there was a deal on those and other grocery items if you spent $20 on these certain items you get a bonus of an extra .10 cents off a gallon of gas up to 30 gallons. Now there are a lot of sales on these types of items because people don't use these items as much during the warm weather, stock up for next winter now. There are great deals on condiments now I buy enough of these items when on sale and I have coupons for the entire year..I have stocked up on crystal light drink mix I had coupons and bought on sale for $ 1 each,24 containers each container makes 4 gallons, thats 25 cents a gallon WOW!!! I bought a 2 # package of yeast for $4.99 I can bake bread all year and never use it all.It came in a 2 pak so I gave my brother a package and he makes great wine with it.I have never gotten into wine making but my parents always made it, now he makes it and it is awesome.I learned a lot about grocery shopping from my mom long before the coupon craze and have picked up other shopping skills from my customers while working in the grocery store. There are sites out there that will teach great couponing and shopping skills. We have a wholesale club here that offers a 90 day free membership.Hubby and I went there to shop and found good deals on vitamins,we stocked up for the year.Certain things there are great deals and they do allow manufacturers coupons.I do have to say not everything there is a good deal you have to know your prices.I find better deals at the other stores on most items.

I too stocked up on the Crystal Light when I got it for $ 1.00 & have enough to last me the rest of 2012 & part of 2013 (I allow myself 16 oz. a day which comes to a whole $ .05) I always check exp. dates & some are good till 2014. I figure that is less than $ 19.00 a year.
Last week I bought $42.00 worth of meat & spent most of Sun. in the kitchen & the freezers are full. I have gone weeks not buying meat (I only buy on sale & if it looks good) & then there might be a week when I spend almost 1/2 the month's budget because of good sales.
Spaghetti with meat sauce (that had extra onions & bell peppers to stretch out the meat & get more vegs. into hubby), (I always make extra to have for baked spaghetti & in warmer weather pasta salad) cheese bread (on leftover buns) & salad was Wed. dinner. I have been shopping on a budget since 1968. The first time hubby & I went grocery shopping together, the bill was over $120.00, he almost passed out (this was 1967), after that he either stayed in the car or I went with a friend (I did not drive then). He had never been "grocery shopping" & when he saw something that looked good he put it in the cart. I had to remind him that we had a tiny freezer & meat won over ice-cream sandwiches etc. Good thing we had been married almost a yr. or I might not have had the nerve to "say no".
