GRANA here;
 As always, shopping sales, matching coupons; cutting back on portion size;  buying marked downs when possible; sering more  economical meals( soups, sandwiches,  still  can't always come in under budget; but it averages out over the  course of the month
Buying " select" cuts of meat instead of "choice lowers fat & costs less; but reqires longer cooking methods or marinating to tenderize &  replace the flavor  usually provided by the higher fat  of the"choice" cuts

I had coupons for boxed potatoes I usually make my own but this was a great deal and in a pinch they're not bad.I paid .50 cents a box I got 6 boxes for $3.They tend to be a bit salty so I prepare them with unsalted butter and they are just fine.I pan sear boneless pork chops and lay them on top of the potatoes prepared according to the directions and bake @ 350* by the time the chops are cooked the potatoes are ready too.Add a cooked veggie on the side and we have a meal for under $5.

I buy larger family packs of meat and break those down into smaller meal portions for 3 or 5.I buy whole chickens and cut them up myself.If you don't know how to cut up a chicken it is very easy and there are how to videos on YouTube which are free.My dad taught me how to do this when I was a girl.I make my own sausage which is much leaner and cheaper buying pork @.99.-$1.49 #.Buying in bulk is a good idea.If it is too much for your family think about sharing the item and cost with family friends and neighbors.I try to plan my shopping trips on one day as it's a waste of gas running back and forth.

I use coupons on only things I would normally buy.  I only buy meat that is on sale or marked down.  When my husband worked he owned a meat packing plant and this is a HUGE adjustment.
