hee hee hee, ahhhh dear julie.  It's so good to hear you laughing!!
I didn't know that Saturday will be National Cookie Day.  What good news. Laughing

I think I've already written about this, but I'll do it again.
One Sunday morning the minister of my church was thanking people who did lots for the church .... he was speaking their NAMES but then he said that they needed to thank the Cookie Lady for what she did.  He never even mentioned my name.

Mixing bowls?!!?!!
I have an ancient Kitchen Maid mixer -- 1971 or '72 -- that I love.  And I use it so much that I bought an extra bowl and beater so I could switch from something like chocolate to peanut butter cookie dough without trying to wash and dry.

Hi Susan -- are those Mexican Wedding Cakes or Sandies or Russian Tea Cakes or assorted other names?
I think every place that has the recipe has a different name for them.
My recipe is:

1 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp water
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1 cup chopped pecans  (I use almost 2 cups of finely chopped pecans)
Shape into small balls - Bake 20 minutes at 325* on parchment paper
Cool slightly - roll in confectioners (powdered) sugar

(I roll mine much smaller - I get almost 6 doz instead of the usual 3 doz )

Baking cookies is a great way to start the holiday season - especially as the weather cools.

I was going to start baking yesterday, but didn't feel well and postponed it...Today I have physical therapy early in the AM and fully intend to start baking the minute I get home.  I have the indredients and cookie pans out and ready to go.  Will make more tomorrow, in honor of National Cookie Day.  What a great excuse!

Nancy, I am not sure if I would call "ancient---1971 or 72" that makes me feel like Methuselah.
I have a Kitchen Aid that I think I got in 81 or 82 (almost new by your standards) but I keep looking at the larger one and I just can't justify getting a new one when this one is still working and I expect it to for quite a while.  I was watching a show the other day on a PBS station and the person using a Kitchen Aid on the show had a glass bowl for her mixer.  I am now on a semi, half hearted quest to find a glass bowl for my mixer. It is sort of nice to be able to see the stuff at the bottom to be sure it is mixed.

I have the few and simple ingredients for VBB's Chocolate Peppermint Wafers (candy, not cookies) setting on my counter waiting for me.  I'm working or the "art" project for my Sunday night kids.
It's so very funny --- I'm play art with those kids until church starts ..... we're all wearing our "church clothes" while we play with glue and markers.

nikki -- I can't imagine a glass bowl on my KA .... I'd break that within a week.  I drop a lot of things.

Brownies count too. They are nothing more than bar cookies w/extra moisture. At least the grandkids think so.
