Ann, why no "All of the Above" spot to mark? I at least fall into the "Yes, just like every other year" and the "Why Bother; I won't succeed" I also sort of fall into the "Yes, but I won't lose weight either" category, I keep trying to take off the "last 10 pounds".  (I like to say I really need to loose 5 and the other 5 is my "fudge factor" because I love fudge!)

I think what I need to resolve is that I will become more organized, I think that will help make everything a lot easier.

There is just 2 of us so cleaning is not much of a problem but I sure hate it.

With 4 dogs, it is impossible to have "a clean " house. I have lowered my standard of clean to include some dog hair on the floor, this I have done to keep my sanity!

I do my best to keep a clean house, but sometimes it is just too overwhelming.  I've had days where I've cleaned the entire house only to have the kids come home from school and an hour later it looks like I never even attempted to clean.

It's difficult to be enthusiastic about cleaning.

There are just the two of us too, so things don't get too bad.  I am lucky to have a cleaning lady that comes every two weeks and does the heavy stuff.  My husband said when he retired, I should retire too.  I have arthritis, and pushing a vacuum cleaner doesn't always work for me.  I look forward to the Fridays that "Romana" ( my cleaning lady) comes.  As far as losing weight, I put on a little weight over the holidays, and losing 5 pounds would suit me just fine. ( That is not an easy task, especially when I look at this web site and see all the great recipes)

This should help you to, at least,  appear to be succeeding in your resolution to keep your home cleaner, this year:
HOW TO FAKE A CLEAN HOUSE
:

The Living Room
  • Reserve one side of sofa cushions to be shown to guests. Before company arrives, flip over the cushions to reveal good-as-new fabric. When guests are gone, flip them back.
  • Rid the sofa of pet hair by wetting the fingertips of rubber gloves and gliding your hand over the sofa. The hair will stick to the rubber.
  • Stack books, catalogs, and magazines in neat piles on the floor or arrange them in a deep decorative basket.
  • To disguise windows in need of washing, pull curtain panels closed.
  • Fold a clean blanket neatly and drape it over a stained sofa. Strategically placed throw pillows can also camouflage soiled upholstery.

THE KITCHEN:

  • When the dishwasher is f ull & sink is overflowing, stow dirty dishes and silverware in a stockpot and pull them out later to be cleaned.
  • Cover up the lingering aroma of last night’s supper by boiling nutmeg, cloves, or cinnamon and orange peels in a sauce-pan on the stove.
  • Declutter the refrigerator by taking down notes, drawings, and magnets and throwing them in a plastic bag. Sort through it later.
  • Fold hand towels to hide stains. Two tips: Hang the clean side over the oven handle (with the stains in the back), or roll towels in neat spirals and stack them pyramid-style next to the sink
  • The Laundry Room
  • Fold clean towels neatly on the drying rack. Rope lingerie items on hangers, then place them in the bedroom closet, away from prying eyes.
  • Drape a scorched ironing board with a clean white sheet, tuck in the edges to fashion a make-shift cover, and place the board in the far corner of the room or behind the door.
  • Pile any laundry that needs to be folded in baskets or storage containers and lay them on the washing machine to be sorted through later.
  • As for dirty clothes awaiting washing, simply toss them in the washer.
If you don't need these hints; I hope you at least enjoy the laughLaughing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Years ago I had a neighbor who often invited us over for coffee in the mornings.  Little did we know that she threw all her dirty dishes in the double ovens.  Finally, one day she exposed her solution.  We all had a good laugh, and thought "why didn't I think of that".

Hi Ann this is funny but I do have to say that I've done a few if not more of the things you listed.I wish people would call before they come over,it would make life so much easier. But that never happens.I do try to keep my dishes done, the fridge cleaned and wiped out every week.I wipe the counter down every time I do dishes and wipe the microwave out every night.I found something at Target,it is a plastic cover to cover your plate in the microwave and nothing ever goes all over and all you have to do is wash the plastic cover when you do dishes. An other tip go stand by your trash can when you bring in your mail and toss all the trash mail right away, any bills I dispose of the mailing envelope and put the bill and the return envelope together with the bill and put those in my file right away so I don't have to hunt for them.I also have a basket for the news papers new always on top.I also use the papers for Romeo since he is paper trained.I do have baskets for everything,I collect vintage picnic baskets and pie baskets they are decorative but also are great hiding places. There are so many tricks you can do to give the illusion that you have it all together. LOL

I remember a plaque in my sisters  kitchen that said My home is clean enough to be healthy ,but dirty enough to be happy! I remember when my five nieces were little and they were all close in age I use to wonder how she took care of everything and still kept her sanity. That was hard taking care of five little girls. LOL I'm so glad I had boys!Smile

I find that if you keep magazines and newspaper picked up your house looks neat and clean even if it isn't.
